Hi all
First time poster, but interested in getting an NAS as a media server. Any love for the Aldi NAS? Great price, just want to check whether it is good value and can perform as described.

Not a deal, and doesnt belong in here. I bought the same one, but 1.5Tb discounted a while ago for $99
This is not a love song
Interesting but it's only 1 drive so no redundancy and I'll pass…
Looking at buying a RNDU6000 with 6 3TB drives (total 12GB storage with a 2 drive fault tolerance)

buy 2 of them…
Rather than the RNDU6000 - what about an HP Microserver running software RAID via FreeNAS? You can boot it from an internal USB key for the OS, you could put in five 3tb Seagates at rougly $150/drive, I think in RAID-5 config it would be around 12tb of storage with redundancy. The outlay on the Microserver is around ~$200-240.
The $85 Mybook World from MSY would be a better (although slow) option.
All of QLD sold out. Plus MSY are complete dick heads. Ordered Monday morning, emailed Tuesday to chase them up and was told sold out…so they were just ignoring my order. The company is run by idiot teenagers.
Needs work to get it to work on Macs too. Pass.
