Check out Ebay, you can get the BlackVue dash cams (the range Autobarn stocks on there anyway) for an additional 10% off using code FYEAR10. Picked up a second 770 2ch unit after having one in the other car for a few months for $479 delivered.

  • Is LTE supposed to supercede wifi connection?

    • LTE is to keep the dashcam online via a data sim to use their cloud functionality. Wi-fi is used to connect to your phone via the Blackvue app.

  • Can’t find the new DR970x Plus LTE on either site

Could I ask what is the benefit of Blackvue over brands like Viofo A229 or 70Mai A810 if I don't really bother with looking at the footage regularly and it is just for peace of mind purpose in case of an accident/insurance claim?

    • If you’re after a dashcam with the basic features, such as driving recording, parking mode, app connectivity - then no extra benefits.

Also, I wouldn’t say the more expensive brands is better for viewing footage regularly either, it’s pretty much the same as the cheaper brands (the connection method is basically the same).

However, I would recommend the Blackvue, Thinkware brands etc, for better design & build quality and/if you need their premium features, such as cloud capabilities, radar parking mode etc.

  • I've got legit "analysis paralysis" on dash cams. 100's to choose from.

My car got drive-by sideswiped 2 weeks ago, while I was on a jobsite… And zero proof of who did it. Would've been a large truck. Having footage would've been PRICELESS.

I think the only real feature I have to have… Remote saving of some sort (is that a thing?) cos of someone wanted to, they'd just smash the glass, steal the camera & card. Or am I overthinking it again?

2 previous incidents… I was not at fault, but one my insurance company quit on me. Dash cam would've made both a dream

Most dashcams with parking mode should capture the incident, especially if it’s by a large truck (bigger impact).

You are right, it could happen, as the footage is saved on the sd card.

For the remote viewing/saving feature, Blackvue is the only brand that does this well. But, it can be quite expensive to setup and maintain - on top of the dashcam, you’ll need a LTE module, as well as the an active data sim, may need a cloud subscription, and I’d also recommend the dashcam battery (to keep the dashcam on for longer and online to make to most of your setup).

      • Thanks for that.
I figure there's a chance people steal expensive dash cams. But that's a different demographic.
Had my window smashed in broad daylight, while I was ~15mtrs away, inside the house. I had plenty in there, but they took nothing. Guessing they only wanted cash. And hit n run drivers aren't coming back to check for a dash cam
