Great game. IMHO still worth playing in 2024.

Liked the Blood and Wine DLC. Kind of refreshing when Gerald isn't treated like a monster.

    • Absolute masterpiece of world building and story telling

  • Best game !

Don't forget to check nexusmods for great ways to deal with frustrations - like getting rid of gear degradation! Just check (in the listing or the comments tab) that they work with the latest HD patch.

Get it on GoG, support DRM free software, own it

  • Can this game be played as a 'standalone'? or is it better played as part of the whole series?

    • +3

Absolutely. Though I’d still recommend the DLC. Up until a week ago Blood & Wine was the greatest expansion ever.

1 and 2 are kind of ass. 3 came out as one of the best games ever made. And I think it accidentally came out so good, because CDPR haven't made a truly good game ever since.

      • Steam reviews for Cyberpunk would suggest different. As would the critic reviews for the DLC/2.0 update

        • As far as Ubisoft games go Cyberpunk is pretty good. I don't know if that qualifies it as truly good, or an unqualified great game.

          • @AustriaBargain: If Cyberpunk is a Ubisoft type game then so is Witcher 3. Its the same formula just in a different setting and perspective.

Big difference is Ubisofts games don't hold a candle in terms of writing/storytelling, characters or world building. At least not since the Ezio trilogy.

You can play as a standalone. It just won't have the same impact when you meet recurring characters from the previous games.

I love all 3 games and would recommend them to anyone who is okay with playing older games.

      • I told myself I was going to play the whole series from the start. I tried playing 1 and couldn’t get into it so I’ve never played 3 haha.

        • +1

And that's why most people wouldn't recommend 1 and why I say only if you're okay playing old games lol

I started with 2 and it's alot more modern and accessible. Enjoyed it so much I went back and played W1 for more lore..

    • Plenty of people love Witcher 3 without having played the others. You can always just watch a ‘cinematic play through’ of Witcher 1 and 2 that has all the cutscenes edited together so it’s like a movie.

  • Anyone having issues with Steam? When I try purchase, it just gives a "Something Went Wrong" error.

Does this still work on Steam deck? The most recent comment on ProtonDB says it doesn’t anymore.

  • +1

Base game so cheap, DLC rarely goes on sale, they probs know that anyone who finishes the main game will definitely buy the DLC

(I know it's on sale now, but it's still three times more than the base game)

This is my favourite video game of all time. Incredible storytelling and quests, beautiful visuals, rich DLCs, and the soundtrack has a piece of my heart. Highly recommend.

  • Fantastic game, highly recommend!
