For a 7 year old, dont wanna spend $200 for a ipod touch, wondering if there are other half decent touch mp3 players around. Just want it to put music on, camera is not important and possibility of playing back videos. Any decent ones for around 50 - 60 bucks?

Battery life will probably be rubbish (2-4 hours average with these types of players), but they are cheap and are within your budget.
If you want better quality, I'd go the Android smartphone route and just buy a Moto Defy+ or something.
Thanks guys, think I will steer away from the phone option at the moment even though they may be more reliable.
So after something with largish screen (prob 4inches or greater), so it is large enough to watch videos etc
Get on ebay and get yourself an old Android mobile phone like the Sony Xperia X10 mini or Motorola Defy. Just leave out the SIM and bob's your uncle.
