This soap reminds me of staying with my grandparents 30 odd years ago. Might buy some for the nostalgia!

    • +1

for me that's Pears (the brown transparent bar)

    • +3

With the shell shaped soap holder on the wall

    • +2

And the damn sticker that falls off and turns up in unexpected cracks

      • +1

Haha yesss I forgot about the sticker! Even as a kid I thought that was a dumb idea.

  • This stuff is horrific hamza!!

  • Anyone else find these leave a strange stain in the shower?

Not a permanent stain but it took some scrubbing to get it out and built up fairly quick.

I didn't have this happen with other soap in the same shower.

    • +1

      Not for me

  • +1

Love this soap.. Perfect balance between lather and longevity. Also, it doesn't soften up too much when wet.

  • My kid loves this soap for some reason, thanks.

How to tell you are 80+ years old without saying you are 80+ years old

    • By not being on Ozbargain 🙂

      • +6

We're not all 18 to 24 you know.
        And many of us wash.

      • -1

I think with how others have commented, you might be surprised.

  • +2

Contains Parfum- meaning it likely contains phthalates. Best to avoid if you can.

    • +3

Can you elaborate on what they are and why they should be avoided?

      • +1

I was curious too. I did some googling, and a quick summary:

The researchers looked at data on more than 5,000 adults in the U.S. They found that those between 55 and 64 years old with the highest levels of phthalates in their urine were more likely to die of heart disease than those with lower levels. People in the high-exposure group were also likelier to die of any cause
        -webmd

        And…

As with makeup producers, manufacturers of these product types don't need to list phthalates on their labels (and generally, the exact ingredients are considered trade secrets). But if you see the words “fragrance” or “parfum” printed on the packaging, chances are that it contains phthalates.
        -nrdc.org

Seems almost unavoidable if its commonly found in cosmetics, deoderants, soaps and shampoos.

        • yeah that's interesting, thanks for looking that up…..I wonder what would put someone in a high-exposure group. Would standard use of deodorant, soap and shampoo put you at high exposure?

Not trying to dilute the results, I'm just curious to see how drastic it is.

          • +1

@whitepuma: From what I can gather, I don't think it discriminates since it can affect children and adults alike. Health issues potentially has a higher chance in people with a genetic predisposition to heart conditions. But probably doesnt present as an issue for most until 50's & 60's because of constant exposure over time

edit: sorry didnt really answer your question, but its probably just about the amount of exposure to products with phthaltes

        • +1

Yup and you'll notice when you go to the shampoo aisle- it will almost never say advertise as 'phthalate free' if the product label at the back ever contains 'parfum' or 'fragrance'

      • +1

Higher exposure to Phthalates leads to higher chances of cancer, it is a known hormone disruptor (as it acts as a fake estrogen in the body), can lead to developmental issues in children and possibly influences obesity.

Highest phthalate exposure is probably for those that use scented products that stay on them e.g. think deodorants, perfume, lipstick, makeup or who heat plastic in microwaves.

If you are looking to avoid it, i'd opt to use non-scented products. e.g. Dove Beauty Cream Bar Sensitive Soap is good

        • Dove is good but it dissolves way too quickly. That's the only issue I have with Dove soaps.

  • +1

Hmmmm yummy yummy pure palm oil soap, borderline identical to any other big brand soap

    • +4

tbh it really isnt. Ive used Dove before and that stuff will dissolve in half the amount of time than Imperial Leather.

      • +1

Dove wasn't on my list, but I've tried several brands recently to find good value for everyday use. Imperial Leather was one of the shortest-lived and it's only good value at this price. The everyday price on Aldi Tricare soap is cheaper per wash as I found they last about 50% longer than Imperial Leather. It smells fairly basic though.
I like the Aldi lemongrass soap. It's almost as cheap as Imperial Leather at this price, but I think it smells better and doesn't have an annoying sticker.

        • Shall give your 2 a shot, ty for the info :)

Nothing wrong with palm oil, in fact it's very efficient and cost effective. Just not environmentally sustainable coz of the way it's farmed.

      • +1

        Nothing wrong with palm oil

        Just not environmentally sustainable

I think that's gotta be a record for self contradiction.

        • -1

*coz of the way it's farmed.

          • @donman92: right so there is something wrong with it, and the reason is actually pretty big when it's farmed un-sustainably.

    • Feel free to link to any animal fat soap available for a similar price.

If anyone interested in Gentle Care on sale as well. Already out of stock at some stores.

Soft touch that reminds you of…

  • For anyone who remembers this from way back , you’ll find that they seem like some kind of small novelty soap , killed any value due to shrinkflation .
