  • and surprisingly, they are still based in Melbourne.

  • That's cheap, wish it was this price for basic sole trader style software. They must really want that payroll market

    • Xero keep increasing their prices

    • Giv Hnry a shot. Have found it great for sole trading

YMMV - I tempted fate and decided to use myob with a client, as they had been using it for the prior 2 years. We implemented many of the basic payroll features with their staff, like timesheets. Instead of this feature adding to transparency and speeding up processes. It has created a logistical nightmare for 3 staff. I can't recommend their software. The cost of the time and the features that just don't work and they don't fix. It reminded me of the experiences I had with it when it wasn't cloud based. Again ymmv, client has begged me to change systems, which we are 1 July.
If you just need payroll, I've had plenty of clients happy with payroller.

How much is the Payroller per month?

      • +2

It’s free , unless you want more desktop functions which has a monthly fee

** for app users who only run payroll for a single person

      • not so easy to find, but clicking through the its $2.99/month per employee *

*Based on 5 or more employees if paid yearly ** for app users who only run payroll for a single person

See I think payroller is horrible software. You get what you pay for. Nothing. No support. Nada. To the point where it cost our clients more to go through the process again with other software. Anyway. That’s my 2c

    • Thanks for the recommendation. Been with MYOB for years paying over $100 a month just bc I have 6 employees to pay (also they refuse to give me access to the billing settings after the person who set up the account passed away and I can't access their account..). Just played with payroller, actually seems to give me the features I need (custom extra hours) unlike other software I've tried. Will look into transferring 1st July.

  • Reckon used to be free, but now jacked up monthly fee to $10

MYOB is trash… used them for many years and their support is now shockingly bad since they offshores it all with workers who just have a manual to read off it.. I remember talking about basic principles and they had no idea how accounting works let alone the program. I also lost anywhere from 20-30 hours in total on the phone with them on multiple occasions.
I moved over about 90% of my entities to xero and it is infinitely better. To give you an idea, one of my myob entities still has duplicate files and I have ask 3 times to remove the duplicate.. they to date don’t know how it fix it (they just tell me they will fix it)and I also don’t want them to because last time they ruined my file and I lost 3 days of transactions. Each to their own but there is a reason why Xero has gained so much market share in the last 10 years.

Can confirm, myob support is horrendous. Just try looking for a phone number on their Web page. Garbage. Still looking for a good one tbh.

Agree with everything you're saying. MYOB used to be ok but now they're just terrible. Their admin end makes you want to die.

  • Used to use payroller as it was free with some restrictions. They recently changed their terms so its no longer free.

When STP was first implemented it was promised there would always be a free option, not the case any more. Pretty sure the ATO even paid a few of these payroll companies to build a free stp solution out the gate.

Agree, this is BS from ATO.
ATO wants everyone to use STP software, but since no more free STP software, ATO virtually forcing everyone to pay private businesses to use STP software. ATO should have developed their own software so everyone can use it for free.

  • Payroll software may be just about right for you, but in general I steer people away from MYOB on principle.
MYOB is over priced, support is terrible, and what should be a simple process takes far too many steps if it works at all.
The sales team are little better than phone scammers, pulling every trick out to convince less than savvy business owners that unless they pay and upgrade each update, they will lose everything forever and been him troubled with ATO. (Actual consequence of not taking up a "generous upgrade offer" given 2 weeks ago to a former colleague of mine.)
