Dirt cheap price on this USB 3.0 to SATA 2.5" transparent enclosure shipping from Jack Ma /s. These are really useful for turning 2.5" SSDs and HDDs into portable storage enclosures and they're particularly useful if you're wanting to clone an OS onto a drive.

The cheapest enclosure uses a Micro B USB 3.0 cable and includes a USB-A 3.0 to USB-C adapter. Otherwise you can pay extra for an enclosure that uses a USB-C cable instead.

AU$ based on current Mastercard rate and GST inclusive.

How to get the AU$ price in the title with PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

    • Not here on desktop site using the "Buy Now" button. I even created a new account and got the same.

Deal is saying 100% claimed now anyway.

      • Is that because of new account discount?

        • Neither have such discount.

  • +2

Is that Jack Ma's shop? The Jack Ma?

    • Jack Ma owns AliExpress.

      • hasnt he been under house arrest since… start of covid?

        • The CCP would know!

        • Nah. He's been spotted overseas months ago and now back to normal.

  • Does this support sequential read and write speeds of 560MB/s and 530MB/s?

    • Depends if your SSD supports those speeds. Plus all the other factors.

      • Yes, I have a Samsung 870evo.
But I doubt this enclosure will.

        • Pretty easy to get close to the sequential read/write speeds using an enclosure and CrystalDisk.

    • It's USB 3.0 so at best it'd be around 400MB/sec

      • So I need an enclosure that supports the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Standard, thanks.

        • +1

Let's do numbers properly so we're all clear on the theoretical maximum of each USB standard.

          • USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5Gbps): 625MB/s
          • USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps): 1250MB/s
          • USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps): 2500MB/s

You'll find a lot of computers and devices don't support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 yet unfortunately. USB 3.1 Gen 1 (aka USB 3.0) would be sufficient but USB 3.2 Gen 2 (aka USB 3.1 Gen 2) would be more likely to get the speeds over USB-C.

          • @Clear: Thanks for that. I find that most of the USB 3.2 Gen 2 2.5" SSD enclosures are advertised with speeds of up to only 6Gbps, which is good enough for my SSD.
