Agreed, hot and crispy is just slimy offcuts it’s terrible

      • did Vic ever get Hot and Spicy?

        • Only as the occasional promo item.

        • +2

KFC Richmond in Vic Gardens Shopping Center used to sell H&S all year then they caved in a couple of years ago…

        • +1

Last time I got it it wasn't spicy at all.I think they forgot the chilli. :-/

          • +2

@Dreamcazman: Yeah it hasn't been hot or spicy for years. Old hot and spicy used to be amazing, the chicken pieces were huge (as big as Red Rooster's fried chicken from a few years ago when it originally came out) and it'd be ~4-5x spicier than Wicked Wings and really juicy. Biting into the chicken you’d actually get a decent kick from the spice and the chicken would be nice and hot. Those were the glory days.

Not sure if the chicken in states that have Hot & Spicy all year round is actually hot and spicy? Might need to visit Perth sometime.

            • @Ghost47: FYI some places in Central Qld do it year round as well…it's what i miss the most having shifted to regional nsw a couple years ago

              • @Luigy: Is it actually hot and spicy though? I know that KFC in QLD and WA are owned by a different company or something so wondering if the Hot & Spicy is spicier than what other states have.

                • +1

@Ghost47: It's actual hot and spicy for sure. You can see the red marinade contrasting the white meat when you peel the crumb a bit… good stuff

            • @Ghost47: With KFC if the chicken is refried you will never get the spice & the peices become dark brown which you can easily notice. I had noticed this in some stores in QLD but once you get an item, I hesitate to go back as it feels cheap. Anyways this is Boneless Yummmm!!!!

              • @rehan770: that would explain why dark brown pieces are so bloody tough and dry

            • +1

@Ghost47: I make my own now and make it as spicy as I like, lol (see my other post below).

          • +1

@Dreamcazman: I've actually had that happen with Wicked Wings - there was no marinade, just the outer crumb.

            • @Paul2141:

there was no marinade, just the outer crumb

This only happens when they dip the chicken in the water for too long, or do it aggressively.

      • I binned most of it first time I bought….quality was crap and no breast in sight.

Tangney electorate in WA Somehow getem 2 establishments serving Hot and Spicy

Must be run by collins food group - they sell hot n spicy instead of hot n crispy

    • +2

Is this a state thing? Hot and Spicy is available here in WA (at least in my area), for now. Frankly, original recipe pales in comparison.

      • +3

Imagine no hot n spicy at kfc, who is even purchasing it?? Guess we are blessed here in WA

      • Tried to order hot n spicy at a store that sold it, but they gave me original instead :(

      • Is it actually hot and spicy? Every time the promo rolls around in Vic the chicken isn't spicy. It's probably on the same level as Wicked Wings (which I'm pretty sure when they first came onto the market had some spice to them as well). Back in the day Hot & Spicy used to actually have a good kick to it.

    • I just make my own, nigh on identical to the real thing.

For $6.95 I'll rather just buy it from KFC haha

        • Not if you're cooking for the whole family. Much cheaper and tastes better.

          • @Dreamcazman: Making your own food is almost always cheaper but you have to spend time buying ingredients, prep, the cooking itself, cleaning. Or you can just order something. No you wouldn't do this every night.

Anyway how much would it cost to buy 18 pieces worth of chicken and associated ingredients (including oil)? it's going to be more than $21 unless you happen to already have all the ingredients minus chicken.

      • +1

        I'll give this a crack

    • Looks like they decided to not even bring this deal 😭

Your Hot & Crispy is bad and you should feel bad!

any ideas when H&S is coming back? typically it comes in the melb winter

    • +1

Did it even come around last year? I don't remember seeing it

      • +2

From memory Hot & Spicy used to be an annual thing up until around 2005 or something. Then it stopped for several years and came back around 2011 and I think might've come out each year but only for a few years. Recently it seemed like they do it every two years which would mean we should get it this year because they didn't bring it out last year.

People deciding on what promos to run seem to be completely clueless, not that Hot & Spicy is even that good anymore sadly. I remember asking once at a store if it was busier when Hot & Spicy came around and the worker said it gets absolutely hectic, it's mind boggling they don't do it annually or even just have it as an option in Vic. Meanwhile Red Rooster has really lifted their game and introduced fried chicken and are trying heaps of different things (sauced fried chicken, pies etc.), some of which are hit and miss but at least they're putting in effort. KFC just does the same thing over and over and it's usually a letdown IMO (e.g. Hot & Spicy isn't hot or spicy, Hot Rods aren't hot, Hot & Crispy isn't hot and they're tiny).

It was definitely out in 2022, I remember distinctly getting some in regional nsw. I've been (im)patiently waiting for the next release but it hasn't come. Wish it was at least once a year :(

        • Yes. Last time they had it (quite some years ago) I asked the staff why they offered H&S so seldomly. He said "look around, it is mad-house busy and the staff therefore all hate it when Hot & Spicy are on and they have to work twice as hard as usual".

I don't mind it actually if you get a nice chunky piece, and don't think of it as an equivalent to a whole piece of original chicken (thigh FTW!).

I find the pieces juicy and crispy as well, which is better than the dry breast meat.

These are so smal in local KFC

  • I really like these - something different, using thigh meat.

  • Ah, hot and spicy. You can cover up anything with enough hot and spicy. Or tomato sauce.
