CX-5 New Tyres X 4

I need 4 x new tyres for CX-5 currently has factory 225/65r17 Geolander - I’ve done about 71k on these & latest Mazda service recommended new tyres.

I’m hoping to get a 4 for 3 deal if possible or even a decent all 4 deal. Looking at maybe Bridgestone Ecopia (buy 3 deal get 4) at present is around $195 each at Bridgestone. Does anyone have any other suggestions or are these tyres ok. General suburban driving only the occasional city or out of town but nothing major.

There is 3 types of people. Those who are good at maths and those who are bad at maths.

This is a little known secret but most tyre shops dont advertise this, but if you ask them, they will even let you buy 5 get and 3. Just gotta ask.

  • $200/tyre is best price for commuter cars in my experience (driving to conditions/speed limit/non-spirited)

  • Tyre-roola , get a quotation off them

  • Has anyone ever bought their tyres at costco? They only have quality brands, just not sure about the pricing - I know that installation etc. is included with the price.

    • Pricing at Costco in Perth wasn't that competitive when I looked last week.

    • I got my tyres from costco for my 94 celica.

      very good price.

but that was 20 years ago in Japan.

    • Really good for me when I did it. Had the Potenza Sport priced really well (the buy 3 for 4) only couple of dollars more than the cheapest tyre shop in sydney.
They said they'll also fix punctures for free, free nitrogen top ups whenever you pop by and free rotation at 10,000 kms.

    • My Ecopia tyres were purchased from Costco close to 2 years ago. You get free tyre rotations and nitrogen inflation. I have done 20,000kms so far, and last month I checked ~6mm thread was left.

  • If the tyres are worn to the minimum tread indicator, just go with the Bridgestones and get them changed asap. If there is a reasonable bit of life left in them, the major brands will probably cycle into their next round of promotions after 30 June or within 3 months, there is a good chance that at least one will have a 4 for the price of 3 offer for the size you need, but its not guaranteed. Hankook also have 4/3 offer on til end of June, I have been satisfied with their Ventus Prime 3 on my current vehicle but I am replacing them at 40k, not sure if that reflects more on the tyre or my driving.

Michelin Primacy4 SUV, best out there by a country mile.Consistently wins all the tyre tests.

I got these for my RAV4 a few months ago and they are great. Can actually notice less road noise.

      • Had them on a CRV, will get them on my current car(Honda Hybrid) it currently has Michelin Primacy4 on it.But will replace with the SUV ones.

  • i bought ecopias h/l 001 recently (4 for 3 promo) similar size (18" rim)… $195 a tyre is a great price… maybe that's the ep300's? Some people have said mileage isn't that good on the ecopias. too soon to tell for me.

3 years ago I took a punt and bought 4 cheap chinese tyres (GRENLANDER 225/55R18 102W
L ZEAL 56 XL) for my 2011 Outlander. They're turned out to be significantly better than the previous Bridgestones. Excellent grip in the wet, quiet, low wear and still balanced from the original fitting. They make a set for your car at the ~$100 mark

I put Grenlander on the kid's Honda. Significantly better than the Toyos it had before. Wore a bit quick but not excessively so.

I've driven a few cars with Ecopia and they aren't for me.

      • Good to hear it wasn't a one-off success for this brand. Will probably replace my wife's car with these when they are due.

  • I have ecopia, now changing to pirelli (via 40% mycar discount few weeks back)

If you're doing vanilla suburban runaround, get the cheapest tyre you can find, Costco, MyCar, wherever. There is a lot of nonsense spoken about tyres which are performing at a very low percentage of their capability.

If you're doing country driving, get quality tyres. Our summer high speed temperatures and harsh country road surfaces are hard on tyres. You dont want a blowout.

  • I have Ecopia on my Corolla (205 55R16V). It's nothing fancy, a decent set of tyres. I feel like the tyres are a bit noisy when the windows are rolled down. I haven't experienced any slipping in the rain.

  • I just got the Bridgestone Ecopia’s about a month ago for my 2019 cx-5. They’ve been pretty good, feel nice to drive on and as promised they’ve been good in the wet eg no water planing.
