I’d rather freeze than buy a quilt for 450$

    • +1

$199 or lower would make it a decent deal

      • It's still expensive after 50% discount! In this economy, we need 90% discount before people are jumping to it.

    • Dads: just put long pants and socks on?

Kid: no I’ll just be cold

Would I be right in thinking that a NZ winter quilt would be overkill for a QLD winter?

    • +1

A winter weight one will be way too hot, a summer weight one will be good for most of the year (but ironically possibly a bit too hot for summer itself unless you're running air conditioning overnight).

80% in the total is throwing me off

80% Hungarian duckdown, not even Hungarian goose down (which is already bad reputation wise) for $450….just buy a proper quilt from Supreme Quilts (Made in South Australia) instead for cheaper with quality goose down

        • thanks, but no similar ones are cheaper? :(

          • -1

@tonester: You're right, it's more expensive. This is the better deal. Enjoy your quilt and referrals.

@Satirical: no worries - do you have Supreme Quilts yourself?

              • @tonester: 1 quilt, two pillows.

                • @Satirical: which quilt / warmth level - where do you live?

also baffle boxed or channel design?
i’ve always had the former, but might try the latter next for versatility

                  • @tonester: '3 blanket' warmth with 95% goose down for QLD weather. Baffle although channel would be more ideal for shifting the down here.

                    • @Satirical: thanks - happy with it, any issues?

found this somewhat concerning, but at least SQ seem responsive

                      • @tonester: I've had no qualms with mine, seems like an unfortunate QC incident.

Don't really have an issue with 10 degree nights in QLD with 3 blanket here but I guess this will end up depending on the person. Can't imagine needing 4 blanket for 20 degree nights myself.

                      • @tonester: Pretty sure it’s supreme quilts that I have 2 of with 2 pillows.
I def think box not channel. One is 3 blanket weight and one is 4, for Perth.

        • I have a Supreme Quilt and I’m very happy with it as well. We have channels so we can brush the down into position depending on the temperature in the room. We have a 4 blanket one which is good for Melbourne winter. I usually wash it in Summer using the Katmandu down detergent I wash my puffy jackets with.

          • @try2bhelpful:

thanks - do you find that the down moves too easily? how often would you have to push/shake it back into the right place?

did you previously have baffle-boxes? just wondering about practical/real-world differences :)

            • @tonester: We’ve only ever had channels. If you brush them down they tend to stay down. When you want it back up you hold it on the end and shake it up.

We have a queen size bed and if I had my time over again I probably would buy a king size Doona.

down naturally moves from the head to the foot of the bed with use - how often do you need to shake it back up?

yes, quilts should always be one size larger than the mattress e.g. double duvet with king single bed

                • @tonester: We don’t do it very often. It only takes a couple of minutes to do so it isn’t that much of a hassle.

Probably the biggest issue we have is washing it. You need a washing machine it fits into. We, also, normally pick a couple of days when it is high 30s, preferably over 40C. Then you do need to keep shaking it to ensure the down/feathers don’t clump. Preferably a couple of airers to keep it flat.

Ummm central European downs are considered as one of the best in the world. Beaten only by the Muscovian. I think in this case Aussie ir NZ down is inferior.
Unless you are one of those "I only buy made in Australia" people…

      • I think you misunderstand. Hungarian sourced down is what's in question given the sketchy happenings over the past few years, there's a reason why it's not used when people talk about the top pillows or quilts around the world but instead often seen by drop shippers selling quilts dumped from China. SQ may not be St Genève but it comes close enough for the price.

        • Ah, seems I am the one badly informed then :-) Is there any scandal regarding their down or you are just referring to their nationalistic self-centric government in general?
If in general, then I am surprised Aussies are such shopper activists. I don't see many people not buying stuff made in China because of Uyghur treatment

    • Would not recommend SQ - the guy seems like an a hole (msg'd him years ago) and they are overpriced.

I ended up buying a much cheaper one off ebay from a competitor they seem to trash talk, which i believe is related to the website posted in this deal.

4 blanket warmth and i've slept like a baby since, no shivers even during -4c nights

        link/store/details please?

  • Bought dreamaker 100% goose down, just arrived today will test for the winter days. King size is $180 in many 3rd party seller like temple webster. Seems it has pretty good rating in many sellers hopefully it is true.

    • I tracked it down in temple webster - the price seems too good to be true for 100% goose down. Is it because it is lacking fill?

      • do they provide similar key information as this deal - down source, fill power, fill weight?

      • The doona is thin, lot thinner & lighter than my Target Gold 80/20 duck down I have been using for 15 years. It is made in China, has a bit of smell but no issue once aired and put cover on.

Suprisingly in Perth 5 degree night last Sun/Mon, arround 14-15 degree inroom temperature this is very warm.
Not sure if this will be suitable for 10 degree room though but fine for my house condition rarely drop to 14 inside.

Obviously this one might I think would be less superior than this Eiderdown but good enough for my purpose.

  • Why not support local, AU made wool blankets from Goulburn are wonderful!

    • +1

i do, and am sure they are - i have MiniJumbuk, but as with jackets, sometimes down is better than / preferred over wool :)

    • Some people are allergic to wool, myself included.

    • Yep, like most people said, preference for material. I get cooked in wool. Down regulates my temperature better.
