Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Ultra $170 + Delivery ($0 MEL C&C) + Surcharge @ Device Deal

271
DD2024SP

Guessing a number of ozbargainers have been waiting for it so the Cloud Gateway Ultra is finally in stock in Australia.

Stack with TopCashback, they have the coupon code listed, gives you $10 off plus 1% cashback.

Note that the merchant charges credit card fees, to avoid select bank transfer. Surcharges: 1.2% VISA & MasterCard, 1.7% American Express, 2.2% PayPal.

I ended up paying $182.99 (before cashback) which seems a decent price for it.

I paid $200 at Wireless1 and it’s about to ship.
Cheaper than many others but at least I know it’ll arrive easily and have good warranty.

    • Just making an important public service announcement in response to your assertion.

Actually, wireless1 does not honour ACL.
myself and others have had negative experiences with wireless1 - in my case it was a faulty UDM.
ymmv and I hope you don't have issues.

      • Thanks for the heads up, I’ve never had an issue but they seem to have a decent reputation on the surface.

  • Anyone bought from here before?

    • +2

If you’re not in a hurry wait for wireless1 to list it in their eBay and combine with usual 20% off

      • When will this happen?

      • When is it happening and how to get “usual” 20% discount?

        • +3

I’d say once it’s in regular stock it’ll be a part of their eBay listing like most other items.
As for 20% I believe there’s at least one or more promotions going right now.. it happens fairly regularly from eBay .

Obviously the caveat being that Wireless1 needs to be a part of the eBay promotion, but they are at least half the time anyway

    • Yes, bought a Kyocera printer from Device Deal from a previous Ozbargain post. Communication was good from Device Deal and printer arrived via courier in good time. Have had no issues with the printer so haven't tested their customer service for warranty issues.

running one of these and a UX express now at home. Was a good replacement for USG and a UAP!
Have used the UAP as a wireless mesh as well which just worked.

    • Please share reason for buying a separate UCG when UX already has built-in cloudkey.

Waiting for Unify Gateway Max (UXG-MAX) , stock seems not ever want to come to Aus!
will check this out and see if it will suit instead. Thanks!

    • +2

I didn't even know about the UXG-MAX until now, thanks for sharing, I'm going to wait for the Max as well. 2.5gbps for all port fits my need.

      UXG-Max Specs:
Managed with a CloudKey, Official UniFi Hosting, or UniFi Network Server
Up to 1.5 Gbps routing with IDS/IPS
      1 x 2.5 GbE WAN port
4 x 2.5 GbE LAN ports, including (1) remappable to WAN
      USB-C powered (adapter included)
Managed with UniFi Network 8.1.113 and later.

The scum bag at TechGeeks is selling it for
$566.50, should be $350 AUD max.

      • Yeah I'm pretty excited for the 2.5gbs too! Haha they are vultures for sure. Sorry I didn't post the specs, glad to have brought it to your attention though 😁 should be available by the time I get upgraded to FTTP sometime later this year

    • No built in controller

      • I host it on my NAS, uses about 600mb of RAM and virtually zero CPU. Would much prefer the 2.5gbs switch instead!

  • I just ordered I needed one asap hope they deliver asap

    • I heard after the 2nd July batch, stock will stabilise.

So for the ignorant amongst us, is this a really flexible router?

    • +1

It's basically the next step up in quality/functionality in comparison to your mainstream decent brands like Asus/D-Link/TpLink/etc.

The Ubiquiti gear has a pretty good set of functionality, it's regularly updated with firmware which fixes bugs and releases new functionality … and as a general rule, the Ubiquiti gear just works solidly and is reliable.

The UCG-Ultra that's being spruked here is a really affordable multifunction device that is effectively a cut down entry level version of the Dream Machines.

Probably easier to just watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TfpeJmI6Dw

      • it’s a router and controller for the ubiqui ecosystem. good if you want router, managed switches and waps from ubiquiti , never really gotten into ubiquiti due to cost for home use vs asus wireless router and unmanaged switch if i need wired ports or POE. I can see the appeal for small business use and remote support for waps, switches , etc by a service provider, or home tech enthusiasts if your house needs lots of waps and you want some of there other stuff.

Ultra is finally in stock in Australia.

I doubt these people actually have it in stock just yet, they are probably expecting to receive them next week like everyone else. Because most other well known stores with multiple branches like Scopetec, CPL, PLE, Centercom, etc.. still don't have it in stock, only an ETA for next week which BTW was pushed back a few times already. Hopefully my pre-order will be shipped early next week..

    • it says in stock and 2-5 days delivery so if not ill ask for a refund

thetechgeeks. com state they've been shipping it for a month - any idea what's going on here? I thought we didn't have any local AU stock yet, are TechGeeks selling overseas stock? Would explain the massive premiums?
"Please note these are coming direct from Ubiquiti. We only list on our website those that have already been secured and are in the air to us. These will also have a replaced Australian USB-C PSU"

        • tech geeks have been selling it at a stupid premium for a fair bit now. saw the UCG Ultra on youtube around 2 months ago and tech geeks were selling it back then. it's realistically imported US stock.

        • I thought we didn't have any local AU stock yet

AFAIK, there were a few previous shipments, but the couple of retailers I spoke to said they didn’t get enough stock to fulfil all the pre-orders. But they expect this shipment (next week) to be enough to clear their backorders.

      • +1

it says in stock and 2-5 days delivery so if not ill ask for a refund

I called DeviceDeal earlier today (Monday morning) to see if they actually have the gateway in stock for pickup because the retailer I placed my pre-order with still hasn't received their stock. So I thought about cancelling my existing order and picking one up from DeviceDeal for about $20 cheaper instead. Unfortunately, DeviceDeal doesn't have it in stock either! They mentioned pickup may be available later this week as the stock is still 'in transit'. It's a bit misleading to advertise 'in stock' when they, like everyone else, don't actually have it as I suspected.

        • That annoys me!!! Pisses me off- it’s not in stock you assholes! I was expecting it either today or tomorrow completely misleading!! If anything this deal should be taken down!

Thanks OP. I was lucky enough to attend the Ubiquiti Conference earlier in the year and saw that they are releasing a product " Cloud Gateway Max" (built in controller) which is the cloud gateway ultra but with 2.5GBe Wan port and 4 2.5GBe Lan ports. Considering the u7s have a 2.5GBe uplink and talks of multi gig nbn in the near future, I am holding off till they release the Cloud Gateway Max.

    • Price on that all-in-one will be interesting.

The true benefit would be if this new one actually supported 2.5Gbe backplane out to the WAN side.

Ultra for most home use cases wont have an option for more than 1Gbe on WAN anyway for a while, though one day NBN seems to plan for more in some cases.

    • Any idea when this will drop? Think I will hold out for it also.

      • Not sure man, I believe they said Q3/Q4 2024, Im just waiting for the time being

  • This or a pfsense router to replace aging Ubiquiti EdgerouterX?

    • Not sure if there's any migration option from EdgeOS? I'm on pfsense and the ability to tweak (and break and restore and break again) is great. But UnifiOS for me at least looks to have caught up enough that I'm considering giving up the remaining differences in my config and reporting scripts for the gleaming white shiny-ness of Unifi-everything :D
Tom has a pretty good overview of the two systems, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkdtybC2Krs , basically you'll know if you need pfsense, if you're unsure - Unifi will likely be fine if you've got the $$ and have the ability to stop at just one more Unifi purchase…

    • +1

this if you cant be bothered to config

pfsense if you want to anything remotely considered advanced

    • Pfsense/opnsense

  • Is there a way to mesh this device with another like what ASUS AI Mesh provides?

    • +2

ucg ultra doesnt have a ap in it

  • Questions, do you need Cloud Key for UXG-Max because it doesn't host the Network app internally? while Cloud Gateway Ultra it does. If this is true, then bloody Ubiquiti is giving us an upgrade, but at the same time you'll need to buy additional hardware..lame

    • UXG-Max requires controller. Cloud Gateway Ultra built in controller.

      • Im confused, what extra items would you need to purchase for using UXG-Max over Cloud Gateway Ultra?

        • You need Cloud Key hardware which has controller built in, or you can host the controller app somewhere else, like NAS or your PC etc..

    • +1

      Product segmentation gone mad.

At some point you need to have the controller software running.

The Ultra has its own OS (Unifi Linux variant) and can run it.

The Max does not , and you need another way to run it. An additional cost. That can be through the Cloud Key, or a locally run one yourself (NAS , PC, Docker etc)

      Its all priced seemingly accordingly.

Ultra is cheap. Max looks like 2x the price for the 2.5 backplane.

      • +1

Exactly, segmentation gone MAD, companies are becoming more and more greedy and purposely trying to confuse consumers.
If you get the MAX + Cloud Key Gen 2 Plus, it basically cost exactly the same as the UDM-PRO.
Might as well get UDM-Pro (but no RJ45 2.5gbps WAN port, only with 10G SFP+ port), but with Controller built in.

  • NOT IN STOCK!!!!

  • +4

Sorry for the confusion with stock availability. Stock is confirmed landed in Australia, confirmed already unloaded in distribution warehouse and confirmed pre allocated for DeviceDeal. We have 100 units of stock that were due be able to ship Monday, now due to go out on Wednesday it was a huge Ubiquiti shipment with LOTS of backorders and new orders to work through so apologies for the delay. All current DeviceDeal orders have stock pre-allocated, so if you have placed an order, your stock is guaranteed.

If anyone cant wait for Wednesday's shipping or is concerned about stock not actually being available, we're more than happy to refund your order and allocate the stock to someone else.

Any questions, feel free to reach out.

    • Having a rep clarify is always great!

  • Anyone know if this can this bond two separate NBN connections into a single service ?

Sorry I think I got this wrong, the device does support multi-wan.

Mine has been shipped now. Thanks Devicedeal.

    • When did you order?

      • Not long after this deal was posted. Cancelled another pre order elsewhere that was more $.

        • Fair enough, I only ordered last night.

    • I believe they only got the stock last evening. The shipping notification you got was DeviceDeal creating the shipping label, which they can do anytime, its not them actually shipping the unit out. If you look at tracking details you’d see the item was picked up yesterday or still waiting to be picked up.

  • mine shipped today also ordered Saturday afternoon

  • Got an email that mine was dispatched today as well.

  • +1

    Price increased to $189.00?

    • It's appearing as $193 for me

  • Mine just arrived.

Thanks Device Deal, all other stores mucking about with stock availability. Whilst you guys got it in my hands before 30 June.

  • Shipped in 1 day and in stock. Best device ever.
