20m X 2 RGBIC LED Rope or Strip Light with 2 Powerpoints

Hi I’m struggling to get clear understanding on if I can connect either neon rope or led strip lights in series to make it 20m long.
I have 40m to cover with two PowerPoints. So 20m on both sides.
Can I piggyback power off one PowerPoint and each LED strip to next one?

Do you have similar setup? Or have seen it?
Please help.
Provide links if you are aware of some retailers like Kmart, Amazon, Aliexpress selling them?

It’ll be for alfresco ceiling.

The only way I see that happening without voltage drop would be a 240v solution which is gonna be potentially dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.

You’re not going to find this in Kmart / Amazon. It’s gonna be an Ali express job for sure.

    • I’ve a sparky I can use. Link to the product if you could please?

Hah not even sure it does exist actually
All the listings look like absolute max 10m and specifically does say cannot extend or join.

Might have to get sparky to put in say a double gpo at 20m then you can run 4 x 10

Too lazy to format the Ali link, just search rgbic 20m and it should be 1st result (it is in my app anyway). I hate the Ali express search engine.

    Technically yes, but generally no.

It all comes down to the voltage the Strip and power supply run at as well as the overall power output (wattage) of the Power Supply.
For Low voltage systems (which is likely to be most) will experience significant voltage drop across the length. This will result in one end being brighter than the other. If the power supply is big enough, extension will be possible, but the voltage drop is going to be even more noticeable in the extension.

I have a 30m long White only LED strip by Yeelight, from AliExpress.

This listing indicates it may now be available in RGB, but I suspect it's just their hacky way of adding multiple length options for the same tunable white that I have as none of the actual product photos or description make it appear to be anything more than the same as I have.
If you can live with White only, it's good kit and at 20m long runs the voltage drop should be barely noticeable.

Mine has been up on our deck as the Primary Lighting source for more than 3 years now. Everything is undercover.
My one tip if you decide to proceed is to wrap the connection point between Driver and Strip with something water tight to eliminate as much condensation as possible. I have a bit of corrosion starting to make the connection unreliable.

I also recommend getting one of these controllers to turn on/off, dim and tune the colour. (avoid the remote control style Yeelight Bluetooth controller, it's nowhere near as reliable)

They're a PITA to pair but a nicer experience than having to open the App to control the lights.
Plus you can keep it all local rather than opening your home network to Chinese Servers to use the App.

  • Just measured. It’s actually 10m on both sides so 20m all up

  • 20 - 30ma for each LED. Thats 0.02 to 0.03 Amps each LED.

Start adding up how much power is required, it really does start to increase the current from a regulated supply that is needed.
