  • How's this compared to the blunt if anyone has had personal experience with both?

    • +1

Never owned this one, just the Blunt metro - the reason I chose that over this one was a combination of price, colours and a little bit of the design (no pointy ends to get caught on stuff).

The biggest difference is that the Davek mini is much more compact (the Blunt only has 2 hinges instead of 3, so it's really long when packed down and barely even fits in large bags like a backpack), and actually has a slightly larger canopy when opened, which is actually kinda important, because I do get a little wet with the Blunt metro sometimes.

      • Are durability points roughly on par ?
I'm liking the davek. But contemplating the solo/duet over the commuter as it's also larger diameter

Davek umbrella's are pretty durable and look great, putting a few drops of sewing machine oil periodically on the moving parts will help it last longer - otherwise you always have the warranty to fall back on if you would prefer a shiny new one.

I find the Solo to be a perfect size to still remain functional in the rain but still be compact enough to leave in the bottom of my bag until I need it.

I've owned the classic and exec Blunt umbrellas, and have the Mini, Solo and Davek Elite long umbrella. Some of the obvious differences:
      - the Blunt umbrellas are noticeably heavier. That makes them feel a bit sturdier. Obviously, the rounded tips on the canopy make you feel less like you'll poke someone's eyes out.
      - the Blunt folding umbrellas have a rather poor "folded to canopy size" ratio ie when not in use, they're longer - but when you open them, they don't cover you as much as a Davek

I do love the Blunt's style and look, but it was disappointing when ours refused to stay open last week - the mechanism that holds the umbrella open had broken. Never had a problem with my Daveks.

But the biggest things for me is that the Daveks are guaranteed for life (my Blunt exec stopped staying open last week after about 7 years of use, and the warranty is only two years), and you can also buy a replacement for half price if you lose one (we've used this and it was very simple).

      • Do you think the davek commuter significantly better (for coverage) than blunt metro? I have a blunt metro and sometimes still get a bit wet in the rain. :(

Blunt metro diameter is 100cm, the davek commuter is 101cm/89cm… Arc / straight diameter whatever that means. I am not contemplating the solo (109cm/89 cm, 510g) at the moment because it weighs more than the blunt metro (385g) and costs $190. :/

        • Arc is the mesh/fabric diameter, straight is the diameter from side to side when it's open

$16 for your first warranty claim or $12 for a Bunnings umbrella and get a sausage sizzle with the change?

Maybe spend the change on a red polo and green apron?

We own two Mini's - one for me and one for wife. it's seriously the best umbrella that you can fit into your jacket that's still reasonably usable when extended. Although I bought them with vouchers at the time since RRP ($99) is just ridiculous.
