Hello everybody,

Just spoke to ING regarding their 'Refer a friend' campaign (http://campaigns.ingdirect.com.au/refer-a-friend?cid=ccm:rdl…) and just wanted to share the information I received.

a) It is vital to use a code that hasn't been used by more than 5 people and/or being super quick to open and activate the card. The consultant on the phone said that ONLY the first 5 people will receive the bonus and as there is no reliable way of knowing the number of times the code has been used, it might pay off to activate quickly. Or ING might just pay off everyone eventually, I'm not sure how they will act, but this is what they told me.

b) This is the important bit.

Those people who use the code and activate their cards between now and 31st December and the people providing the unique codes, will have their bonuses in by 8th January, 2013.

So if you are a new customer and haven't received your bonus, I'm guessing that means 5 people activated before you. Might be worthwhile to call them up after that date to check why the bonus hasn't been credited and they might make a goodwill deposit, who knows ?

To those people providing the codes, if you receive less than $250, that means you still have a code or a few codes left (simple math to find out, 1 code = $50). If you have codes left, you can still give it out, since new customers need to open and activate by 31st January. Both parties will receive their bonus by 8th February.

Yup, I think that's about it. If someone else feels like cross checking that with ING, that would be nice :)

    I have an ING account - a Savings Maximiser - but no Orange Everyday account.

    Am I eligible to sign up for this deal having been given a referral code?

    If so, is it too late to "activate the card" in two days?

      from my understanding they are two different accounts - you have a saving maximiser does not equal to orange everyday. So technically you are still a new customer for the orange everyday account. I might be wrong though but I am in the same boat as you so good question lol.

    guys make sure you transfer at least 1 cent into the orange account before the end of jan 31st to activate it that way you will qualify for the $50 referral

      So that's what "activating" entails? You don't need to physically receive the debit card before the 31st?

        You need to receive it and activate the card, as well as activate the account by depositing funds.

      Yeah, i've had at least 4 confirmed use my code and so far including the first deposit of these bonuses i've only seen a total of $100 so far. Though i can't complain. $100 free money is still an awesome bargain compared to some of the other bargains on ozbargain.

    Someone I signed up got a $20 deposit yesterday and a $50 deposit today! An in our favour mistake by ING? We'll be withdrawing it soon just in case ING decide to take it back.

      Some people got an extra $20 as compensation for the long delays in receiving their card. They should have gotten an email explaining this, $70 for signing up a savings account is a great deal

    I got the full $250. $100 on January 8th, and $150 on February 8th.

    All 5 of my referrals activated their cards in December and got emails saying they successfully applied for the refer a friend bonus - so I should've got the full amount in January, but it wasn't until I noticed the i symbol next to the account number for one of my family members that I hovered over it and it said the account was inactive… because it had no money in it. I transferred 10c into the other 3 accounts just to open them. I got the money, and so did they.

    ING didn't really specify that any money had to be deposited into the accounts to activate the actual account. It was meant to be a 2 step process. Show enough ID to open an account, then activate your card online once you get it in the post.

    So, for all of you who are sure all 5 of your codes were used, they opened the accounts and activated their cards, give ING a call and see what they can do for you.

      Activation by deposit was required. This was confirmed also on their fb page.

      I agree the promotion email could've been clearer, almost dodgy to entice people to open an account and then screw them out of $50 because they didn't clearly say that a deposit was required.

        It was on their Facebook page? Wow. I actually called ING on January 9 to find out why I didn't get the full amount and the lady on the phone didn't say anything about having to deposit funds into the account. She just said to call back after Feb 8 and they'd look into it.

        I'm glad I dropped 10 cents into the other 3 accounts in January then. Otherwise I would've missed out on $150, and those 3 friends/family members would've missed out on their $50 as well even though they went through the hassle of setting up an account and activating their cards.

        I posted the question a few times in this thread whether funds had to be deposited into the account or not. As you said, it wasn't made clear in the email everyone received, so perhaps those that missed out can give ING a call and they might be able to do something about it.

    So the transaction marked "miscellaneous credit" is the reward? I only got $50 from signing up from someone here (+$20 for their delay), but that's $70 I wouldn't have had otherwise, plus currently earning 5% in my saving account. Legendary deal.

    Gah! Serves me right for not reading the fine print. I parked the card after activating it, didn't transfer any $$ into it. So I missed the $50 deal! DOH! At least there's still 5% off purchases…

        Recieved my card in December, then got two friends to sign up later that month, and they activated their cards in January.

        They used my unique code when signing up of course… Am I missing something?

          coz ING deemed activation as requiring a deposit of funds.

    Just got an update from ING. Because of the activation confusion, they are extending it until the 27th February. So get your friends to deposit money into the account before that date and you will both get the $50.
    Also anyone who deposited/activated after the 31st January but before this new cutoff will also get paid in March.
    If Way Tong is reading this put some money in your account, so we can both make a quick $50.
