GWM (Great Wall Motor) Warranty and Roadside Assistance

Hi all, I am about to purchase a GWM and they offer a great 7 years warranty & 5 years roadside assistance.

My question is has anyone been through their warranty process or roadside assistance? Are there any hidden conditions that consumers might not be aware of?

Thank you all.

Admittedly it's better than nothing though.
Most of the euros won't give you anything near this.

A couple of things to check that may sway you to purchasing alternative roadside assistance; towing distance both metro and regional may be limited. Sometimes regional distance is calculated as round trip; for example Budget Direct covers only 50km regional, therefore 25km from a major town of city. Depends on your use case.

I am about to purchase a GWM

    I'm sorry for your loss.

We're 3 years into our H6 3rd gen ownership, not a single issue has developed with the car.

Thankfully I'm unable to comment on warranty, because the car itself is solid.

I'd gamble one too, prices are good, the cars look almost normal. Even if falls apart twice as quick as a Toyota, it's half the price of a Toyota..

The GWM/Haval's are turning out to be very reliable.

The LDV/MG's are part of the Saic Motor Group which are less so. I would know - Have an LDV and due to its complexities there's been a few minor things to replace.

Have they sorted out the rust issues?

Had our cannon for nearly 3 years, no issues. Recently purchased a Haval hybrid and love it. Previously had a Toyota Land Cruiser and Mazda, both had issues that cost a fortune to fix (had the cars for a few years and were both out of warranty). Wouldn’t have even thought about buying these cars/brands, until a few neighbours purchased them and raved about how good they are. Also haven’t needed to use warranty or road side assist, so can’t help you with that, but was with racq with old car and they were horrible.

Honestly the GWM's are the more reliable of the Chinese vehicles.
Nothing is really hidden, just if you do go for warranty and they have it for a while ensure they organise a loan vehicle.

You're saying GWM are better than MG or Haval?

      • 100%

        • +2

Oops just realised GWM is Haval hehe

          • +1

@mrvaluepack: Sorry, just read to MG and didn't see the Haval,

            But yeah you clarified it.

      • I Though Haval was a GWM model?

Disregard, you beat me to it.

      • I have GWM and Haval, love them both.

Roadside assistance, will be like roadside assistance through most 3rd party companies. Be some number to call up and they will arrange it.

As for hidden conditions, have a read of the T&Cs. Generally on these longer warranty cars, things that are classed as wear and tear are not covered.

Just make sure you service it at the correct interval so they have nothing to knock you back on.

  • Thank you all, appreciate the comments

they offer a great 7 years warranty

Not all warranties are created equal and it doesn't create an invisible shield of protection from the fact that it's going to fall apart long before 7 years.

    • +4

BMW, VW group cars are more likely to fall apart before 7 years due to German beancounters and their superior cost cutting skills; i.e. the use of plastic cooling system parts that just beggars belief. Then end user would spend $1k+ to fix something that saved the manfacturer $1. Sometimes I wonder if this is intentional - so that mechanics can have a job and this is good for the ecosystem?

Haval and generally most Asian manufacturers (maybe Daewoo as exception) are not that shortsighted, and tend to produce more reliable cars simply by not cutting corners where it shouldn't have been cut. Quality is really that simple.

P.S. have had all 3 brands and speaking from experience.

        My Audi was a PoS.

10 years old and may as well chuck it in the bin, the newer ones aren't much better. Give me an EV any day of the week.

      • BMW, VW group cars are more likely to fall apart before 7 years

Do they offer 7 year warranties?

        • Nope just 5

    • Where are you getting these “facts” from?

  • @michael9865 have you had to test either?

    • +2

Yeah, road side assistance is ok, not premium. They only do towing and hire car basically, no accommodation.

      Haven't done warranty claim.

The early gwm cars were complete rubbish numerous problems not hearing much either way with the more recent models.

    Time will tell.

I can tell you from experience that roadside assist is good. Haven't had a warranty problem yet for my 2021 Haval Jolion (touch wood).

Roadside assist is offered by Allianz and they subcontract the actual jobs to smaller companies so the experience will differ city to city. But in my experience, it was good. Had a puncture and called Allianz for help. It turned out the roadside assistance plan was still in the previous owner's name but they updated that over the phone for me. A subcontractor came and replaced the spare for me within 20 minutes. I accidentally requested the service twice but the duplicate was cancelled when another subcontractor called me about the puncture. I did not incur any cost for the call out or the cancellation so overall, very happy.

  • What? They actually give warranty with these things?
