  • Well the price is right - nice find op

What ever happened to Blaupunkt. Back in the 90s they were high end electronics with a price tag to match. Now, bargain bin rejects.

It's not the same company that it was in the 90's. Blaupunkt went into liquidation in 2015 and the brand name was later sold to and picked up by another company. Kind of like how Dick Smith went into liquidation and the Dick Smith brand name was sold off during the liquidation. It's now in brand name only.

It filed for bankruptcy in late 2015 with liquidation proceedings completed in early 2016. The brand, now managed by GIP Development SARL of Luxembourg, is licensed for use by various product groups worldwide.

      • That hasn't been updated yet. Got taken over by "Aurelius" or something. Just another random investment group. Happy to sell whatever cheap junk at a profit.

Big companies have long since figured out people prefer price over quality.

    • They went bankrupt. Now their name is licensed to whoever wants to pay for it.

      • The name Blaupunkt is pretty darn close to Bankrupt..meant to be!
Its like the founder had a speech impediment and saw the future…

    • Lowest of low end Chinese electronics that uses only the Blaupunkt name. Same with Kodak these days

      • Yes. The Blaupunkt brand name is licensed to whichever manufacturer is willing to slap the brand name on the TV. It's just a cheap low end TV with the licensed out brand name put on it.

      • Same with names like Telefunken, Acoustic Audio and Rank Arena from well known brands that have long since gone out of business.

        • Aiwa has entered the chat …

    • like quite a few brands they're licensed / relabeled generic electronics but no longer the original company/quality so best nobody expects anything from them

  • Is this made in the same factory as Linsar? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/852131

    • All the same OEM generic…

      Polaroid, JVC..blah blah…same same.

Panel itself is made by one of the big manufacturers (LG, Samsung, TCL etc)…so 4K stills should look just the same.

But post processing/ upscaling etc wont be there at all on most cheapies (licensed PCB board not inside). Some have a basic version.
