MacBook Pro 16in 2021

Hi all, I have an option to buy a brand-new 16 inch 2021 MacBook Pro with M1 Pro, 16 gig of ram and a 512 hard drive for about $2100. I can Salary package this for another 30% off and I am very tempted.. I’m sure it’s a powerhouse, but it’s also almost 3 years old now as far as Apple Support into the future. Still worth it? Mostly web and photo editing. Air would prob be fine but it’s a solid deal! I currently have a 2015 15 inch MacBook Pro i7,16 GB with one terabyte SSD. Doesn’t update to the latest OS.. Also have a PC desktop with 27in screen for day to day use. thanks in advance.

I don't know how that 30% off via salary packaging works, but if the final price it's $1470 I'll be all over it for sure!!! Even if you don't need it, you could resell it for a profit?

BTW I'm using that very same MBP (but with 32gb ram) for work and it's a hell of a beast

You can run the cost of a laptop as pretax in your pay once a year. It’s overkill for what I’d be using it for but so hard to pass up deal. They were sold last year when clearing out on sale in 2023 for just under $3k. We’re around $4k new if I remember

      • Didn't know that, may try to do that when I replace my laptop next time 👍

        • Does your employer provide a salary sacrifice service?

          • @MS Paint: I've no idea, didn't even know there was such a thing. I'll have to find out

@Bredo: Most use a company called smart salary or similar to do all the paperwork.

Wait what? I had no idea about this, tell me more.

I have the 2021 MBP M1 16" machine but the 1TB SSD version and it runs great!

Unless you need software that can't run on your current i7 machine, I'd just stay with the 2015 MBP.

What is the problem to not updating to the latest OS? My 2021 MBP is running on Monterey because I read on reddit lots of people complaining about slow downs on Ventura, so I am not updating to the latest OS to avoid slow downs.

I have M2 Max and it is a beast. I reckon M1 Pro would feel about the same. I can abuse the f out of it and it still runs fast, hundreds of windows open, I can just leave After Effects open in the background for weeks.

This has a few more years of use. But I guess you can sell to reduce the M1 Pro price

Research OCLP, you can install the latest macOS on older Mac

    • How much do you think it would go for? Grade A condition..
