Pixel 8 Pro Users - Is It a Good Mobile?

Hi,

I cannot make up my mind if I should buy a samsung 24+ or a pixel 8 pro.

What's your experience when it comes to pixel 8 pro?

I don't use mobiles for gaming.

Does pixel 8 pro support wifi 7?

How is the battery life?

I use gps when driving and it makes my current samsung 21 5g really hot….

The Google Pixel subreddit will probably be more helpful…

  • I am using it for about 1-2 weeks now. I don't game as well.

Last week used it for 1-2 hours for GPS (Waze) and can't see any problems with that. Got this case for protection - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CMXNW8HT
No heating so far. Don't know how long you will drive daily and where (poor signal, etc) but can't see any problems with that.

Battery life - I have very heavy battery usage app on my previous Samsung S20 FE (bybit trading) and battery went to 20-30% at the end of the day. Now same apps migrated and used - got 50-60% at the end of the day.

But your usage might be different.
Also got few spam text filtered automatically, so no problem with that.

  • yes, had one since november. Love it

I dont do any gaming on my phone so cant comment on how it performs gaming wise

  • Excellent phone. I highly recommend-especially for the price now. I saw it on special for $1080

I get a day of use out of it and run maps for most of the day.

  • Yes it is a great phone. I've been using Google Pixel phones since the 2XL. If you are used to the Samsung UI maybe you will prefer the S24+. They are both decent phones.

Pixel 8 Pro supports wifi 7.

Battery life is good. I charge it daily.

I've found all my phones get 'warm' using GPS while driving. Especially if you are also charging it AND it is in the sun.

  • What's your experience when it comes to pixel 8 pro?

Its about to be replaced in a few months, so wait for the sales or get the pixel 9.

  • Happy with mine (bought 3 months ago), especially the camera. I also use the GPS quite a lot (Android Auto wired/wireless with Google Maps) and haven't noticed any significant heating.

  • I got it as soon as it was released. I use my phone quite intensively, so it lasts about a day. As for Wi-Fi 7, I have no idea; I’m sure the specs will be available online. The AI is really good and takes about a month to learn all the features. It’s a lot more powerful with features than the S23 Ultra, which I replaced. Screen calling is nicer, and spam detection is really good. However, zooming in on the S23 Ultra is better. Everything else—video, photo quality, and calls—is better, but it requires you to know how to use the software to maximise its potential. If you’re into tech, go for the Pixel. If you just want to snap photos, make calls, and browse, the 24+ is decent.

All in all, for the price, I would get it again. If the Pixel 9 Pro is $800 upon release, I’m excited to see what they have next and may make the purchase. Unfortunately, I don’t have any experience with the S24 Ultra, so I can’t compare it directly. But one would hope that the S23 Ultra is much better than the 24+

Why would the 9 pro be so much cheaper upon release than the 8 was?

      • oh i mean near $800 range got the pixel 8 pro for $800 on release, due to the Harvey norman cancellation method. Hopefully there will be something similar upon release

  • I replaced a Motorola edge 30 with pixel 8 Pro. Same dimensions hand in hand but p8p weighs twice as much. Battery lasts me over a day and a half of normal use including a fair bit of YouTube videos, and I have all the stupid battery drain settings turned on like location and always on display. Haven't noticed overheating but it doesn't sit in the sun when I drive.
Would buy it again for the camera alone, everything else a cheaper phone does fine
