I want the ccp to know how I'm doing

    • ..as worn by Cheng Lei

      • You are on some CCP list now @jv

        • They are on my list…

          • @jv: We want to know who else is on the @jv list.

            • @seamonkey: Once you know, it's too late…

              • @jv: Ok. That's it. I'm building a bunker.

  • From what I could find there is no difference between the CN and Global versions other than NFC. The Global version has NFC disabled while the CN version only works with a couple of China only payment apps.

  • Do not disclose your health information to the CCP!

  • The Huawei app is a PITA that wont let you sign up without mobile number verification, even if you choose the option to sign up with email.

    • The Huawei app is a PITA

      a PITA souvlaki?

      • That souvlaki tastes like ass

        • bad ass…

    • sign up isn't 100% necessary though is it?

with Mi band you can use the app without an account.

only difference afaik is with an account you can sign in anywhere on another device or the website and view your fitness info because it's synced that's all.

I just need the app to function locally on the phone. I never sign up for anything unless I absolutely have too. (some apps can be a bit dogdy, they hide the X icon so you don't know where to tap but tap around and you will find you can close those sign up popups most times)

      • I can't say for sure as it was a year ago for a Band 4 Pro, but as far as I could see I couldn't do anything without signing up first.

        • fair enough. I was tricked recently.

app popped up with sign up with google first, before any other account option and made it look like the ONLY option. thought I had no choice and linked my google account.

turns out I could have made just a regular account with the service if I had taken more time to tap around and figure it out. (I even went to the website and tried but couldn't find it. turns out the option was there in the app)

  • Why samsung google cant get 10 days like this one on their watches… ffs

    • Because these run an extremely barebones OS based on RTOS/FreeRTOS with very limited functionality

      • not just that I think.

it has been a question for me as well. we are comparing like 14 days to for apple watch 18 hours claimed battery life.
even recent budget models such as Xiaomi smart band 8 pro, Redmi watch 4 and Huawei Watch Fit 3 have fluid OS with 60hz OLED so it's not the OS.

I thought about it for awhile and other watches (everything from budget to Garmin) really simplify the app loading, only can load a couple limited apps and usually not "instagram" or "facebook" or any of those big popular ones.

which is when I realised. most likely the apple watch has all those same app permissions enabled same as on the phone. so I bet a tonne of data collecting and then sending that back to instagram is happening on top of apple's own data collect. I bet that's why the battery life is so miserable. Apple watch is pretty thick too so it's not the battery size problem.

same deal with Google's WearOS. not singling out apple here but any smart watch that really struggles with battery. but 18 hours is ridiculous, so after 2 years and battery degraded it lasts what maybe less than 10 hours? how do you track sleep?

someone with a year old Pixel watch said they are charging twice a day and managing to track sleep but sounded ridiculous.
