    Normal price is …?

      $200, but sales are common.

Does anyone ever buy anything full price at Kathmandu? It seems like their sale prices are their regular prices…

  • Will this be sufficient for Everest Basecamp?

    • No. Consider a technical and high loft power (750+800 fill) lightweight down jacket like the Macpac icefall, Patagucci down

        No

Depends when you go and what weather you get. Summer there is not much different to winter here. A friend of mine did it and said if you get good weather it's perfectly doable.

    • Trekking to BC? Yes. Climbing everest? No.

    • the heli R (synthetic filler, not down) - hell no - it barely keeps me warm in a Brisbane house the past few weeks

  • RRP $229

Are these treated with PFAS on the surface for waterproofing?

  • Decathlon mt100 for $69 is much better price.

Why is this downvoted? People should provide a reason to be helpful

  • How does this compare with the MacPac one that's on sale too?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/851415

    • It doesn't, MacPac's similar offering that folds up is the Uber Light Down Jacket:
      https://www.macpac.com.au/macpac-mens-uber-light-down-jacket…

This is $229RRP down to $99 right now.

Not offered with a hood AFAIK. But available in 5 colours, unlike the black and navy in the Heli.

Edit: hooded version is $120. Also same prices for Womens version. Again, many more colours than Kathmandu.

I just bought one (the MacPac) as sizing is much better if you're tall and slimish. An XL in the Heli had marginal sleeve length, a 2XL good sleeve length but I could hide a wombat underneath it. L in the MacPac was perfect.

Another difference, the Heli folds away into its own pocket, the MacPac has an external bag to stuff it into.

      • Thank you for the detailed response. I'm tall and slim so I think Macpac is the way to go.
I was confused in the offerings, since the one I linked and this are also the same down weight rating but the MacPac one is heavier

But new to hiking gear so I'm probably not understanding this correctly

      • Out of curiosity how is the one I linked different? I'm guessing it's heavier and hence warmer but unsure how much etc

You mean how is the Macpac Men's Halo different to the Kathmandu Heli?

Compare the amount of down filling. The MacPac Halo (for $150) has much more and weighs more. Should be warmer. Also puffier.

Comparing the Heli and Uber which are in same class, the Uber Light is indeed much lighter, fill is quite a bit less. Despite that when trying them on I didn't notice the Uber Light was drastically thinner than the Heli. I thought the MacPac felt a touch more premium, and certainly fit me better. My use case: not doing any hiking, just for early/late sports spectator outings.

Best to find a store to try them on.

          • @pressPlay: Thanks! I appreciate that. Planning to try them on this week :)
