What if I don't have any friends?

  • They want you to have their app on your phone so they can bombard you with deals?

    • I already have the app and haven't once received a notification. Even if you do it's simple to disable them.

  • Whats the thoughts on Trip.com? reviews arent great from a quick scan and dont know if its worth the risk. The website looks like the Aliexpress website.

    • Don't trust them.. just fake deals - I reported last time that they 'sold out' of my flight when everyone else had stock from a previous offer - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15015281/redir

      • Seems to be a theme of reviews i read also, i will steer clear!

    • I had a very bad time digging a refund out of them a few years ago when a Tiger flight got cancelled. Five different customer service reps saying five conflicting things, none of which had a clear path to an outcome. I avoid, even if they're a couple of dollars cheaper.

    Not worth the risk

    • Gah that is such a shame that they are dodgy.
Sounds like a great deal but this is not the first time I have heard that they are dodgy.

Shame the airline cant do this sort of deal directly.

These “deals” are just a promotion to install you their app. Tried these “deals” last two times, never got anything, never heard of anyone else getting them either!

  • Not sure about this deal but booked tickets for Bali via them recently and it was all good. They were the cheapest (the tickets were non refundable).

Trip.com is the main accomodation booking site you'd use in China and is owned by a Chinese company. They also own the popular Skyscanner website. I wouldn't say they are dodgy given how big they are. You could experience the same issues with any of the large third party travel booking sites like Booking.com, Agoda, Expedia etc when not booking directly with the airline.

  • The deal goes live at 4pm AEDT today.

Where in Australia is using AEDT today, except you?

  • Given Thai Airways took ages to refund my ticket after COVID, I would stay away from them. At least Singapore Airlines didn't go belly up during the pandemic.

    Commenting just to downvote.

Trip.com does not provide up-to-date flight prices, and as others mentioned, forces you to proceed through the booking process before indicating the 'flight is sold out'.

In expectation of this deal, I went through the same process yesterday multiple times looking for an appropriate flight to South America in December. Advertised price was $1300, but the final price after multiple 'sold out' sessions was closer to $2k.
When I went on there today at 4, the same $1300 price was listed again for the exact flight I looked at yesterday, but was 'sold out' when I went to book.

I'm sure their system is automated, but it's still annoying they advertise old flight prices when it should have been updated after I 'refreshed' it through my search yesterday.
