Mercedes-Benz Australia Navigation Package, 1st Month Free & Free Map Update, $20/Month Ongoing (Cancel Anytime)

140

Mercedes-Benz Australia has just released some of their services such as the navigation package as a monthly fee instead of just the 12 month or 36 month options. If you wanted to update your maps you would generally pay for the 12 month service around $206. Now however, it's $20 per month and you can cancel anytime which still gives you the latest map update downloaded to your car.

The best part is the first month is free!

$20 a month, for the latest map? Is that all?

    • +1

Free for the first month, then cancel so $0 map update 👌

Now Replace the M with V….

  • xD!

Surely it is not $20 a month for just a stupid map update, no? But then again, it's Merc, posing costs…

If it really is, what is the value over something live like GMaps/Waze?

BMW once charged $750 for a CD to update their SatNav, makes this a bargain for Brodens

    • …or it just makes BMW even more of a ripoff

  • Hi guys, is this thru the Mercedes me app?

    • yep, the mercedes store app is getting removed and everything moving to the me app

      • I have a 2020 Merc GLC. I signed up to the Mercedes Me app and it allows me to select “maps automatic update online”. Does this mean my maps are updating ?

How do I find out if I have to pay or not ? How do u know if the first free month applies to me ?

        • you should see the navigation package in shopping icon (4th icon on the bottom under purchased) e.g i have amg track race and engine start as permanently active and now see the nav package. First month is free it says it will bill me after the first month is over. Also in your car on the map screen if you see live traffic icon then its active. They are usually free for 3yrs after car purchase.

I remeber I was quoted $400 for a single update of maps on my hyundai i30 after 5 year warranty expired. The dealer advised me to use my phone instead for updates maps.

  • it's $20 per month and you can cancel anytime

So cancel, and renew for 1 month once a year to update your maps…

      That's what I'm thinking

Honestly, why would you use the factory navigation from any brand if you have Carplay/Android Auto?

    • +1

      Came here to say this.
This is nothing but a cash grab. Total waste of money. Imo.

      • +3

Legit. I've been in multiple new cars and all the factory navigation systems are garbage compared to Carplay/Android Auto.

Laggy, slow and not really up to date compared to Google/Apple Maps, and not as helpful as Waze when driving.

Only semi-decent system I've seen is in a Tesla.

    • Factory nav may show directions in the heads up display, carplay/AA don't. Google maps and waze are still far better IMO, but some people may use factory nav for that.

      • BMW works on the heads up display with android auto for waze and google maps.. Works for apple maps only on carplay.

    • Car doesn't come with Android Auto, and my dashboard isn't suited for mounts :(

      • Get a price to replace in-dash

My car came up asking for radio code after a trip to the smash repairs. I didn't have the code. Apparently I'd have to remove the radio, get the serial off the back, send to Alfa Italy and maybe in 6-8 weeks I'd have a code.

I emailed Level Up Audio and they will replace on Friday with Alpine, CAN adapter (so info and car settings are retained in the unit), Android Auto and Carplay Wireless, DAB+, steering wheel controls and all the bits to make everything work only better and apparently with custom Alfa facia will sit in perfectly like a factory one.

        Worth asking the question.

        • Hmm, I'll ask the service place, does it have to be from Mercedes service centre? But my sister has Android Auto and say it keeps disconnecting and then she's f'ed coz she's driving and there's 0 navigation unless she pulls over. A lot of the app reviews said the same thing

@MeesusEff: For the Merc I think the add on boxes are probably the best? Some you can even install yourself.

I think the missus is looking at this one for her GLC250

@Ramrunner: lol I got a glc250 as well, 2017. thought it had android auto until I looked in the middle and couldn't find anything. map is so out of date I cant use it much as its all new roads here

      • What year and what model? There's usually new head-units or boxes that add the functionality to it

        • +1

2017 glc250. I mean, if I can update the map for free and refresh for $20 every few years, seems better than paying hundreds for Android Auto, then the wireless adapter as I heard the cabled versions aren't great.

If car is included for free - that would be a deal.

    • Real deal in the comments.

Give this man a hand. 👍🏼

Get outta here. You're not a software company - your maps would suck.

Google Maps and CarPlay/Android Auto is free and would be insanely better.

This is a product for boomers who don't know any better.

    • +1

Or….. for people who just want to make sure the software is the latest, even if I won't use it… just in case.

  • Finally remembered and created a Mercedes. Me account, aaaaand my car isn't compatible wtffff

    • What car? Year?

      • 2018 glc250. Thought they said that 2018 glcs had Android auto but couldn't find a port in the middle console. Think the only option is the SD card

        • There are some awesome retrofit options for Android headsets. Otherwise if you have MB navigation, you can log into the Web portal for mercedes me and download your new map to a USB/SD and manually update your cars maps. That's what I did myself.

          • @VanTurk: When I registered for Mercedes Me it blocked me from the navigation sign up as it said not compatible. I didn't know I could download it myself, did you need to sign up to the navigation sub for it?

        • Same car same boat. We got the car when my father went back to Holland (he had it and left it with us), and all the documentation seemed to indicate it had AA. Even had their support on the line a few times trying to get it to work.

I finally got someone competent on the line who looked up the car in their database and alas, apparenty it was an option, and CANNOT be added via update or factory hardware to make it AA compatible. They literally gave us the number of a car audio place to get the after market black box add-on.

Great car to drive but the tech is SO typically German. 2018 and no touch screen, just a stupid dial. And somehow dad had set the voice recognition to another language, which apparently wasn't downloaded so putting in destinations via voice is impossible and a whole lot of fun with that awesome dial. NOT!

The car drives awesome and didn't cost us much so here I am with my first world problem of no decent in-car media tech but it just frustrates me the Germans are so backwards. My sister in law's BMW of that era is just as bloody frustrating.

She even had to subscribe to heated seats for a while. FFS.
