My RM belt is going on 5 years with every day use - looks like it still has another 5 in it

  • nice - i love the drover style, got one in black and one in brown but with contrasting hardware unlike this 'stealth' look.
can recommend. great belt. only had to ditch my black one after i dropped 5kg and the belt was WAYYYY too long after i put in a few extra notches.

    • Do you not realise you can cut down belts to size?

      • +1

Take it to a cobbler and get it done from the buckle, dont do it yourself from the tail end please.

        • +2

Why not ? Garden shears work well and your Swiss Army knife has a punch .

          • @beach bum: Your Swiss Army Knife has an awl, not a punch. A punch will do a decent job, an awl will just leave a ragged mess.

            • @banana365: I just use a very pointy very sharp knife to awl in from both sides then punch through .
Obviously a punch would be better for punching through thick leather , but I wouldn’t expect these are really that thick , anything really will work as long as you don’t slice the leather.

I have worked with leather and made belts etc .
Even used a press and die’s for the country look .

yes i do realise but unless it was diy i kinda assumed it would prob cost like $50 or something + travel time - and as @japes correctly pointed out - has to be done from the buckle side which would prob have to undo all the stitching, and then re do it…worried it would look funny after that. Happy to just keep it on the shelf in the hopefully unlikely event i pile all my weight back on lmao

        • Cuttings down your belt is just part of being a man ,

          you can do it !

They're decent belts, but really expensive. Have a look around your area and see if you can find a local leatherworker that sells belts. I found one near me at Fremantle Markets and I've bought several different belts (styles and colours) and they're really good quality. I've just searched and found that he has a web site and the prices are a little more than I remember, but they're still lower than the discounted belt in the post https://cleverworks.com.au/

they look quite nice and decently priced. Might give them a go.

      • Go for it. I think the oldest one I have is 15+ years old and the youngest is about 5. They all still look good, even after loads of wear and the occasional shift in waist size.

    • These look great. Might give them a go

And still in insane mea$ure 1 1/2". I don't trust items with unpared double quotes (Metrification started in the 1790s. How many centuries are needed to understand standards? ;)

    • +1

But then you won't be able to tell the other CPA's in matching puffer vests that you're wearing an RM Williams belt? Literally the only selling point?

  • -4

You can pick up full grain leather belts on amazon for about $30

    • +4

A cheap, poor quality Chinese made belt for $30, or a quality Australian made belt for $90. If all you can afford is the $30 amazon belt, then sure go for it, but as others have pointed out the RM Williams belts are of high quality and will last for years.

      • I got one for $20 and its lasted more than 5 years.

      • 4 years isn't long

  • +2

As i dont have an arse, i do need to strangle myself in order to keep the pants/ shorts fixed to a position, will these keep up with the strain over a long period.
my hard yakka is going over 6 years although you can see the leather is starting to tear/ fray (not sure if fray is the word).

    • +2

      I think you need suspenders

    • similar to you - i did have to put an extra notch in my one. the bit right at the back has deformed a little with the strain but doesnt bother me. i have my belt extra tight as it shits me if my shirt starts to migrate out during the day. i did also have a hard yakka one for years and i do agree for that price point its great

  • +2

They’re pretty thick, would recommend slimmer belts for formal clothing if you have belt loops.

    • Yes I agree, the belt doesn't seem to fit for formal occassions

      • Yep definitely a style for day to day wear

  • I love these I have 2

  • It's checking out at $104.30 (30%) :/ . @Frizzlerz did you do anything different other than just add to cart and checking out ?

    • I just tried and 40% works for the black belt (that's the colour I purchased), doesn't seem to work for the brown

    • +2

Well looks like it's now 30% off for most of the RM Williams belts but I used the heyiconic20 code to get another 20% off, brought it down to $84.30 not bad!

  • +1

They must not have had much stock or the deal got OzBargained as all of the most common sizes are sold out already.

    • Buy a larger one and cut it down to size then punch some holes to suit .

  • Have one of these with the silver buckle. It’s great and is lasting for years.

    • Only 30% off, not 40%.

      • +1

use code heyiconic20 to get even more than 40%

        • Cheers, I just pulled the trigger on one for $84.30!

  • +2

A belt just lasted 4 years? Did it wear out somehow or did you just change size?

I've never had a leather belt wear out. My oldest (and the most frequently worn) is close to 30 years old.

All my other belts are at least 5 years old.

From other comments, people are somehow wearing out belts - how?!

    • Poor quality "leather" will split / perish.

      • +1

Yeah, I understand there's quality variation in leather but any good quality full grain leather should result in a long lasting belt. My everyday 30 year old belt was a cheapie picked up at Just Jeans, in 2024 prices cost me $41.

It's amazing that people would consider an RRP around 150 for a belt.

I have a specialist sports belt from the US which uses probably 10 times the leather from Texan-raised cows, with a low production volume specialist ratcheting buckling system. It was custom cut, custom dyed with a suede backing. It cost about twice as much as the RRP on this RM belt.

I also happen to have an RM belt, picked up randomly on sale when I walked into the store years ago. I prefer the one from Just Jeans. I only have about four belts. The RM sees the least use, though it does look pretty.

    • I know right?

I still have my belt from 2011. Made by a local leatherworker for $75. Incredibly thick and weighty without any signs of wear. Unbuckled it becomes an illegal weapon.

  • getting 30% off only.

  • +7

Add promo code heyiconic20 for extra 20% off

  • Dang - I've been looking for a chestnut belt with gold hardware and none of them are on sale. Great price for the other colour combinations, though.
