Is this a compliment or compliment thread?

    Personally, power to em.

We've seen broden's on eBay but I don't think anyone has seen them on Amazon with prime shipping.

    • Or complaint*
      Damn predictive text.

I've ordered stuff on eBay that arrived as if they were a normal Amazon order. It's a very strange world we live in.

    • +2

they can give positive feedback on amazon to themselves

    • That's pretty much not allowed by eBay :D

    • Can confirm I know people who dropship from Amazon to Ebay and make like 100-200 a week from it.

Why do people get so offended at individuals running a profitable business?

    • +7

      also known as scalping?

      • +1

scalping, removal of all or part of the scalp, with hair attached, from an enemy's head

that doesn't happen on amazon… YET

      • +9

This isn't really scalping, though. Scalping is buying up a limited quantity / high demand item (such as a concert ticket) and reselling (and at times higher than RRP).

Here we just have some person buying things on sale and reselling them. Nothing there is limited in nature, and can be purchased anywhere else.

I'm not offended by this practice. I wouldn't ever do it myself (just doesn't seem worth the time), but power to them.

More accurate term would probably be flipping.

          • @askbargain: Yes, they're flipping, and not very high value items, either. If they're making any significant money from this I'd be shocked.

  • It’s pretty easy to search through OzB usernames that closely match the Amazon seller.

Buy low, sell high - it's not a difficult concept by all means :P

  • +6

    Idk how profitable this is,
1, no constant supply of goods.
2, deal price is not always as low as supplier price,
3, having to keep the stock without knowing if he can get rid of it with higher prices

      also renting amazon warehouse space

      • Is that an ongoing cost that's charged? How much would it be?

        • +1

yep. A quick search on "Amazon FBA warehouse fees" turned up:

          Monthly storage fee

Amazon charges a monthly storage fee per cubic foot of space you use to store your products in their facilities.

Monthly storage fees range between $US0.56 to $US3.34 per cubic foot. The price will vary depending on a few factors:

Time of year you are storing inventory (October, November, and December are busier months, and storage fees are subsequently higher)

          Physical size of items

Type of item (if they are dangerous goods, they will be more expensive to store)

Warranty headaches? Change of mind etc
      Seems ballsy

  • I remember I ordered dishwashing tablets on ebay for way too cheap; they came from Catch, I checked them on the Catch website, and they were double the price I paid.
i dunno how they made money but whatever, it was like 12-18 months ago now

    • Was the ebay site just an outlet for overstocked Catch items?

      • nah it was a random seller with a few hundred feedback, and also sells anko products

        • Employee in the Catch warehouse running a "side business" would be my guess. Both Kmart and Catch are owned by Wesfarmers so they probably ship out of the same warehouse.

    • i dunno how they made money but whatever, it was like 12-18 months ago now

I ordered 1l of a sauce product from ebay for $10 shipped. It arrived in a auspost box, the postage was more than what I paid!

So it is strange at what happens out there!

I guess they just wanted to get rid of the product to save on warehousing costs?

      • High volume sellers typically get 30% off postage. The front parcel sticker shows full price still. Though they probably still lost or broken even with your sauce purchase.

        • High volume sellers typically get 30% off postage

I'm aware of that… There was no front sticker, I sell on the platform, so am aware of the hidden costs behind a box arriving at my doorstep. So Tell me how they made money on a $10 item I purchased on eBay that was shipped via auspost.

Postage was around $11 at the time, so $8

          Box is about 50c

          eBay/paypay flees are 20%, so $2.

COG? It was in around $9-12 instore to buy. Lets say they got it for $4

          Profit? There was none

          • @JimmyF: Many sellers on ebay are using amazon prime and onepass for dropshipping

            • @jackofspade:

Many sellers on ebay are using amazon prime and onepass for dropshipping

This wasn't a prime item or one from any of the onepass places.

Even if it was, the item was $9-12 instore to buy, I paid $10 for it, ebay took $2 of that in fees.

      • Maybe the seller made a mistake with pricing and didn't feel like cancelling the order.

I've screwed up many times but never have cancelled an order if I had the item in stock.

    • +1

I know with Amazon you can ship out your products to people who have bought on other platforms (i.e. eBay) or to anyone you like without them having to make an Amazon order. Perhaps Catch allows 3rd party sellers the same arrangement?

  • looks like it's FBA as well? So the store owner has sent all that to Amazon after buying it. Maybe they have bought online and shipped to amazon? Then wait to get "chosen" from amazon sales of that item. Anyone can open an FBA and "arbitrage". I wonder what happens to the items if they don't sell though…

    • You can compare the prices they bought and are selling. Then you have to consider how they will cover warranty.

  • What an enterprising little individual we have!
