Hot damn Georges camera is on fire this year.
I have the 20-70 and always wondered how much I missed out on the extra on the long end. Can't justify getting it though
i sold tamron 28-200 and got 20-70 instead.
24-105 is bit old and heavier. You can still crop to get 105mm range.
i just looked up tamron 28-200, f2.8 - f5.6 ; that reach wow. why did you sell it?
Always would like to know, I am trying to buy a 28-200.
It is a great lens for travel. I have taken it to New zealand last year, very versatile. However the focusing is bit slow and personally i use more wider angle(building and landscape )
I would pick tamron 28-200 over 24-105G
Will definitely reconsider it if tamron can upgrade it to XVD and range start from 24mm
Even cheaper with the $50 AmEx credit if you buy through Sony.
Unless you need that F4 at 105mm and constant aperture throughout, then I highly recommend Tamron 28-200 mm lens over this. Tamron has greater zoom reach, is lighter, also has better colours and contrast for same sharpness and price range.
I have that 28200 and can confirm it’s no slouch, often under $1k. Highly recommended if you’re not a first party lens snob. Great all rounder.
Not so comparable. The Tamron one does not have OSS. Most of Sony’s IBIS suck so…
That’s true - but for stills not an issue for a7iii (ozbargain approved) or higher
Yep, forgot to add that. In all fairness, even with A7cii's improved 7 stop IBIS, Sony native lenses behave really nicely stabilised compared to Tamron (although autofocus is literally same). If stabilisation is crucial, then 24-105 makes more sense. To me, I will have the range + colours + F2.8 of Tamron over stabilisation of Sony any day of the week.
I read previously about Sony putting restrictions on third party lenses, like burst rate. Quite a few posts about that online as recent as this year. May be Sigma/Tamron owners can try out and tell us.
I just did some googling, appears to be limited to AF-C. Still a bit sucky. At least Sony has third party lenses.
This in an extremely good price for a great all rounder lens.
I paid $1,110 (including cash back) last year with similar offer. This is $100 cheaper - cracker deal!
Great price.
Tamron 35-150mm F1.8-2.8 is my new favourite all rounder though.
It's awesome but so heavy and twice the price of this. I'm looking at a cheapy (like $200) 20mm for landscapes.
I’ll do you a favour… Viltrox 16mm F1.8.
It’s impressive even for people who pixel peep, and distortion is low. Although not quite $200, it’ll give more wow.
That being said Viltrox do make a 20mm F2.8 for about that price although I have no experience with it.
Owning their 16mm on FF and 23mm on APS-C, both are impressive.
That's exactly the 20mm I'm eyeing. Normally $158USD but there should be a 15% off deal today which includes the 16mm F1.8. I'm not sure if I need the extra FOV especially at that cost difference. I'm only planning on using at Antelope Canyon in the US.
@Caped Baldy: There's a large difference between 16 and 20mm, although either will likely do for the task.
Although you won't need the extra 2-3 stops when shooting outdoors, it can make a difference at night, inside or even inside caves.
What I can say is the 16mm is amazingly sharp (even wide open in the center), even when viewing at 100% on the A7IV.
I used an old Minolta 20mm F2.8 back when I had the A900 and there were no issues with that at all (although extreme edge sharpness left some desirability).
Good price, mine coat way more back in the day
I bought this the other week for $1299 before cashback…FML.
It’s uh good for the economy
Greta lens - rarely leaves my A7III
1249 now
$1134 from digital camera warehouse
Damn that’s quite decent.
Good to see prices falling back to pre COVID prices.
