              • @zorrt: You made the right choice with the Odin 2 I reckon

        • I'll just advocate for the RP4P here. Yes the Odin is stronger. It's got better battery life etc. it's the superior device.

But the RP4P is a lot cheaper and there's not much it can't do. I think 3D Switch emulation is about where it falls short (not 100% sure as I don't go down that path). Everything else, it has covered and is near flawless. With Android and emulation as it is today, the Odin is overkill.

The RP4P is a really great machine. Super value for money. In saying that if I had a spare $500 odd kicking around I'd get the Odin 2 too.

  • Great handheld. Below is a link to probably my favourite reviewer of these types of handhelds. Goes into plenty of detail on the controls and performance with different systems on it as well as comparing it to other handhelds. I myself own the powkiddy RGB30 and the AYN Odin 2 Pro. The only reason I didnt buy this one is because downward firing speakers absolutely annoy me.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCWn9U8HHHc

    • Your opinion of the RGB30? I was considering a Linux model.

      • +1

I certainly like it. Feels good. Easily portable. Can do all the legacy stuff from genesis/snes/arcade and below really well. Saturn and psx some games run perfect, otherwise with a little dip in framerate. But considering what it is its very impressive what it gives out for the price. The controls feel good. Some people have said their dpad was doing diagnals too easy, which made me get some special tape in preparations to fix it. But mine came in just fine. Maybe they've ironed things out or something. And supposedly the only other weird thing is theres a chance once it dies it wont charge again. I've not had that happen but the fix is very easy. You just open the unit, unplug the battery, then plug it back in and it works fine forever. But yeah, I've not had either of these two things happen, thought it was worth a mention. The screen is gorgeous. Love that its more vertical so really good for those types of scrolling games like Raiden etc. The only thing I would have liked different was maybe another model with a larger screen. That would have been perfect.

Now whether this is better than the pocket 4 isnt something I want to touch. The screen is perfect for arcade games, which I really wanted it for. The pocket is your typical screen thats good for everything else. Hell, owning both wouldnt really be a bad thing. I'd originally planned on the pocket being my second handheld but decided I wanted something more powerful and larger. And I didnt want to go to the steam deck because its way too large and I already spend most of my time in front of a gaming pc. So the odin 2 pro took that second spot and I'm happy with both handhelds quite a bit.

Any way to avoid GST? I'd bite at 220 odd, but 220 odd plus 20 odd is high enough I'd rather have just bought the 556 for a little less.

  • Anyone interested in this deal, should not miss it. I have mine for 3 weeks now. Bought before the previous sale for about $170 USD so now it will be about $10-15 USD cheaper depending upon how the GST is calculated. I absolutely love mine and this has played anything I have thrown at as long as the emulator has support for the game.

PS1, Saturn, N64, PS2, GameCube, PSP, arcade stuff everything is fantastic.

One thing I have noticed in general is that emulation on android is not perfect, for example a PSP game that may work perfectly on a steam deck, onexplayer mini with old Radeon graphics or a PC with mid range graphics, would have audio or graphical glitches. This comes down to emulator optimisation and drivers, not necessarily the power of the device.
The price is right though as at this level it's not completing against steam deck.

  • Just taught my kid with Onion OS on Miyoo Mini +

Now I gotta read up on Android

  • Seems I can not do it, as I already used the code.

This coupon code is for single use only and can't be used here

Deal starts in 9 hours though

      • Yeah, sorry just saw that

  • +1

    Already oos?

    • +1

Thankfully… I was 90% of the way self convinced to buy this!

      • +1

        Back in stock lol!

Remind myself the price is not including gst.. So will end up cost like $270 I reckon

        • +1

          OOS again

          • @Librarier: Its not meant to be live yet for another 4ish hours though?

            • @Ironic fear: That has nothing to do with stock levels.. chances are, they won't hold stock just for a sale. This post was put up prematurely and all the ones who already saw is incredible value .. even without the code. Has bought one.

    • Back in stock! Go go go!

  • Interesting questions section, seems that's where some of the negative "reviews" go.

  • Is the Switch lite more powerful?
The Switch lite was around the same price a day ago from DJ.

    • Different devices, not really comparable.

But if you need an answer, don't think the switch can emulate gc/PS2 as well as this. And this can't play switch as well as a switch.

    Dead link

    • Turn off your VPN or whatever is masking your location if you get a product not found message. AliExpress have a lot of region specific sites and content.

      • As of late this morning both lines are OOS.
The clear one was available early this morning but gone now also.

        • So not a dead link then. The sale hasn't even started yet.

          • @Clear: Didn’t say it was, I said the seller was OOS regardless of the sale starting or not.

  • Anyone considering this? RG556, similar price. $261AUD at the moment.
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006620521265.html

i know it's weaker CPU but nicer screen/better(?) control

    • Controls are actually worse on anbernic, but the screen is better and its more ergonomic

  • no longer available?

  • OOS, It seems a lot of sellers have jacked up their prices on handhelds, the odin 2's are up near 800-900 which is outrageous.

    • Handheld hype

    • Yeah, I'm confused here - the sale hasn't started, but we're all out of stock?

      • The price was so good, people.bought it before the discount codes could be applied

        • lol - so what are the chances they release stock for the actual sale?

  • Sold out

  • I’m shocked that it sold out already? I thought the sale hadn’t begun yet.

  • Anyone managed to get one? The deal was already going viral outside of ozbargin.

  • Damn sold out

    • Been gone since this morning unfortunately

    • +1

i found it too its SHopXXXXX so scam

      • Shit, I ordered one a few days ago from that store and it already shipped. It was a choice store so I took a gamble. Hopefully it's easy to get my money back after it arrives as a scam.

        • I got scammed on a R36S.
They changed the listing after I purchase it to include a “Tetris” game option.
AliExpress refunded the “full” amount minus the cost of the Tetris game since they said it “had value”.
Ended up paying $8.57 for a Tetris game thing I didn’t want. Annoying.

          • +1

@internet-stranger: Getting something you didn't want and getting charged $8.57 feels insane. I would be pretty pissed off if it occurs to me. Anyways that store already has 450 units sold now. Was only 30 units sold when I bought it.

            • @Knightchampion: Yea. That’s actually my worst experience with AliExpress.
I got another R36S from another seller and the rumble didn’t work. Ali refunded the whole amount. Shrug

      • Store has changed a tonne of listings just since i ordered earlier and swapped pics, descriptions and titles.
Just got ali to cancel my order now than try fight it after it arrives

    • Enjoy your new 9999 (versions of Tetris) in 1 handheld.

It's a scam but you'll get your money back eventually.

      • Probably but its a Choice store so I rolled the dice.

  • What's with this seller?

You can't see their store name or access their store page. No banner. "Aggregated reviews from other sellers of identical item."

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007010660202.html

    • +1

That’s an “aggregated” listing. If you scroll right down the bottom it says “Global Factory Selection Store” is the seller.

      • Thanks.

        • +1

FYI that’s the listing / seller I purchased off. Got it for $61.04 inc GST after discounts a few weeks ago.
Great machine, loving the big screen.

  • Deal is back on! I paid US $164.12 (incl GST) for this using the codes.

    • I am getting aud$264. Am I using the right code?

      • +1

I changed the conversion to USD as that was cheaper. It was too late for me to do this, but if you add a shell or bag with it from another store, it exceeds 179$ so you can use the 24SS25 code. This should get to AUD$260.

    • dam i want the white one which is OOS

  • Was able to order just now. Total for me was $158USD. Had a $20 off coupon and used some coins as well.

    Might stop getting handhelds now.

  • -2

I manage to order 3 and using the $80 coupon and Cute living store had 10% extra discount for buying 3 units in 1 go so total paid US$409 = A$618 for 3x RP4Pro A$206 EACH!!!

    https://ibb.co/1mnq82n

    • +1

      Why do you have 3?

      • -3

No idea. Usually they only let you add one to cart but this time they allowed multiple so I took advantage of the 10% extra discount.

Will offload the other 2 for a profit to make the one remaining I bought even cheaper or free!

        • +1

Thank you for the original post in letting us know about the deal, but there's no difference between what you've just done and plain ol' scalping in theory.

    • @Jaduqimon if you are looking to offload one, let me know. I saw the restock notification, but was too slow and it sold out again before I could get to it. Oh well!

      • Do you get restock notifications in the Aliexpress app, or someone notified here?

    • Just PM'd you!

  • If you are getting over $200 towards $300 for these things, it could be worth going with the Odin 2. Just a better experience and the CPU will not be the bottleneck. But then you are looking at $500+ so then you might want to start looking at a Steam Deck … Then it spirals….

    • CPU bottleneck for what? The only useful tier odin 2 unlocks is switch.

      • As in any emulation that is going slow is not due to the hardware, but the software with the Odin 2.

  • It just went back in stick went to checkout then sold out again.. far out

  • Mine got delivered today, which is pretty darn quick if you ask me. Will inspect it later.

    • I also got mine today.. I have to say the simplicity of the anbernic Linux system trumps this 10 times over. On saying that the design of this is really good.

  • +1

Lots of fiddly set up, and lots more to learn and tweak as we go, but this thing is pretty great! Played Paper Mario for many hours.

Pretty happy with the price I paid.

For those that are having trouble moving things like ROMs and whatnot over from a computer to the device (I did - my linux install doesn't seem to consistently stay connect for file transfer via USB) I recommend installing LocalSend on the Retroid as well as your PC.

Basically Air Drop for every device and platform under the sun. And, the Retroid's Wifi seems fast enough, so it didn't take too long to dump a few gigs into it.

    • I set up the microsd as a portable storage instead of built in as Everytime I transfered the SD card to a reader it would reformat. The portable storage works however you have to use the retroid launcher to find the games as some emulators can't seem to detect external storage

      • That's right, internal storage is seen only by the android device you made it for - to transfer files you would plug the device in, not the card!

      • And you might have to grant your emulators access permissions to the external storage?

$286AU with current promos. Could stack with cashback?

    • slightly cheaper if go with USD, it'd be $283 AUD after converting. Stack cashback for another $9 off

    Pulled the trigger on this.
$195.58 before GST for the Retroid Pocket 4Pro Crystal shell now free delivery

    • Dodgy store with 0% feedback.

      • Oh, did not check the store. We'll see if it arrives. Seller updated the order with a tracking number.

      • Update: Confirm Scam. Customer reviews shows a Chinese Tetris Device.

    • That's a hefty discount! Great value

    • This is definitely a scam. I would suggest to cancel the order and get your refund. Even in China you won't find it for less than 250 AUD.

    • Customer reviews are in, enjoy your Chinese Tetris Console.

      • Yup. I got stung on a previous deal like this. Ali only refunded the money minus the value of the Tetris machine, which somehow they valued at $10 even though there were listing the same thing for $1.5 elsewhere.

In the end I was only $10aud out. Not a huge deal given it’s the first time I had been scammed on Ali and I’ve bought a lot off them.

        • I generally try to avoid new store/store without any customer picture reviews.

        • Sigh… at least if I get the tetris console, I can still use it after the whole refund process. someone in the reviews got a bare phone lcd screen.

That's what I get for thinking Aliexpress "Choice" means something.
