For 5 dollars more, just get the 2500x with the newer body design https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/137062/oral-b-power-…

      • The 2500 compared is different to the new 2500x. Both the 2500 and 2000 posted are using the old body design.

    • Confusingly, the 2500X's body looks more like the 3000 than the 2500 lol

      • +1

Yeah the 2500x is virtually the 3000 in black. I asked the manufacturer about this.

even cheaper at $58.99 on eBay

      • Yeah this is a great price. It’s the x version, which the seller mislabeled without the x :))

      • Thanks bought this with $5 off voucher.

    • +1

So $5 more for different looks that is not better, not worse?

      • +1

It’s better. The new body design has better waterproofing. Cheaper on eBay linked above too.

I have one of these, bought it years ago and it still lasts 2 weeks. Love the LiIon battery. My partner has the old one with NiMh and needs to charge most days. So this will be a nice upgrade.

Prefer to support local business Shaver Shop or Chemist Warehouse over Amazon.

But I’ve been tempted to buy an iO 6, is there any reason to over the 2000?

    • Agree, pretty easy to nip into a CW or SS and pick one up on the spot.
Both Li-Ion battery. Agree the old ones suck!
I'd probably go the new body too I guess, the travel case is different so may be better for the future.

Prefer to support local business Shaver Shop or Chemist Warehouse over Amazon.

But do they support you, or is this "supporting local business" just a one way street?

I've previously listened to the advice of "supporting local business", just to see them desert me when I needed to do a return or warranty claim. On the other hand, Amazon have always had great customer service - returns are almost "no questions asked", and seamless.

      • They all get it from Oral-B so not sure it really matters. Hopefully you won't need to return a toothbrush. The default option's are good if you are going to the shops anyway, and can get it straight away. Amazon can expire and/or stock runs out and goes to third party and more expensive.

Sounds like some people can't decide but rather enjoy the banter.

    • iOs are way overpriced, full of gimmicks and accumulate dirt easier.

To get the advantage of the smart features you need to brush with your smartphone on. They can't record and save anything without a smartphone on during brushing.

  • Bought two of these last year from good guys. Not happy. It's less powerful than the Smart 4000 we had before it (we use it at my parents house, so frequently go between the old 4000 and our new 2000s) to compare.

We've just bought the Smart 5000 dual handles for $125 as we're not impressed by the 2000. Disappointing as I had done my research and I thought the 2000 and 5000 had the same motor / power with the only difference being somewhat useless features.

Maybe try the Genius 8000 - I got one when the two handle deals were on (sold one for $60, but could have kept for a spare).
They are a lot better than the really old one with ni-mh I had (batteries go slow after ~4 years), and have a bit higher oscillation speed.

Worth getting from SS as they got 180 day moneyback guarantee & 2y wty.

    • Are you happy with the Smart 5000?

      • Yes happy with the 5000. Feels similar to the 4000.

    • +1

Interesting to hear your anecdote. I was just reading this comparison and it says the motors are the same.

      https://www.electricteeth.com/au/oral-b-pro-2-2000-vs-smart-…

Does one clean better than the other?

No, they both clean as well as each other.
Both brushes have the same motor and deliver the same number of oscillations and pulsations.

      • I'm weighing up getting the 2x 5000 on ebay for $112 or so with Plus. But I just read the 5000 review and they say it's the same as the 2000 but with BT and more cleaning modes, both of which I won't use so I'm torn.

Regarding the parent commenter who said the 4000 was much better than the 2000, I wonder if this is because of the brush mode of the 4000 being defaulted to a different mode than the 2000?

        • Defaults the same.
Just look up the oscillations comparison of all models and just get one that fits the budget with a li-ion battery. All the rest it just extra BS you don't need (except maybe a travel case is handy).

            @G-rig: Yeah thanks.

I’m realising that this is a massive waste of time, spending my life comparing bloody toothbrushes 😖 Because Oral B have about 50 models in multiple product lines with no clear indication of what’s what. Very unlike a European company. I mean there’s websites dedicated to comparing and explaining them. Goes to say.

I don’t actually need one, my old trusty 2000 still works so my partner can upgrade to a 2500 from Chemist Warehouse.

            • @Corgsta: Yeah it's annoying all so different. I there used up be an image of table comparing models maybe just google that, but sounds like either would be alright and similar just get the best price one.

    • +1

We had a similar experience. The 5000 had the most powerful motor even compared to much more expensive 7000.

The step up from the cheap $20 Woolies 200 ones feels night and day.

Over the years we have used
      Philips Sonicare
      Xiaomi sonic
      Oralb
      200
      5000
      7000
IO 7 (new type with big heads)

Even if they were all the same price the 5000 would be the one you would pick in a blind test. For the price it really is the way to go as it had the only useful feature which is the pressing to hard sensor.

It could be they have the same motor but with different battery or default setting?

      • Thanks for the input. Was initially looking at the IO3 but have seen ShaverShop have both the 5000 and 7000 for the same price at the moment.

  • Now coming up with "This item is only available from third-party sellers" Cheapest is $97.98 .

    • It means the allocation sold out I believe. Just go to Shavershop/CW.

  • I have this model for maybe 5 years, just other week randomly stopped charging

    • great timing, nothing lasts forever.

  • I'm sure I'm not the first one to have this thought, but these really need to have an option for USB-C charging. Travelling often, having to carry a separate charger is always a pain.

    • The 'good' travel case certainly should be USB C, you couldn't plug directly into the brush though being exposed to water.

      • you couldn't plug directly into the brush though being exposed to water

Well, I mean we've had water resistant phones with USB-C ports for years at this point.

        • Dunno, sounds a bit hard and not worth it for a toothbrush. The bases work well and the new ones stay charged 9 days or whatever. Short trips wouldn't even need to take it.

Not stopping you emailing them to suggest it though.

          • @G-rig:

Dunno, sounds a bit hard and not worth it for a toothbrush.

Not trying to argue with you, but standardisation of charging is a good thing - literally everything I take with me on a trip is chargeable with USB-C except for my electric toothbrush.

FWIW, even my waterflosser and shaver are chargeable with USB-C, so the idea that somehow a different standard is needed in the bathroom is a bit silly.

            • @p1 ama: Yes in an idea world and I'd prefer that too.
Certainly the travel case should have a USB C - once I was looking at aftermarket cases on Amazon, maybe check that in case there is something now.

Annoying USB micro still on bike lights and stuff (the new Garmin edge is USB C and I changed over, still a bit retarded you need the cable for some updates instead of wifi. Some things will never be perfect.

Any other brands offering USB C?
