Wall Mounting TV

I just got my house built and asked the builder to put in extra studs for a future wall mounted TV. Do I install the wall mount bracket above the electrical outlets? With the outlets in the middle of the wall, will it get in the way?

I have attached a picture of the wall. I am learning to become a ladies man.

  • What size TV are you mounting? There is an ideal height above floor level but varies with TV size.

Just a quick random site but it seems to cover the basics.

    • 75 inch TV

      • Is that even going to fit between the windows? They're about 1.7m wide 75" TV's.

True, it does not fit. Okay, 65ā€.

@Ladiesman24: Ok. The measurements you need can be calculated using the site I linked above. Depending on the height of the sockets the mount may be under/above or actually over the sockets.

            Measure twice, install once.

            • @MS Paint: Because the outlets are in the middle. When the TV is plugged in, will it get in the way?

              • @Ladiesman24: Depends which mount you use. There are ultra flush fixed versions which hug the TV to the wall - yes you may have issues. There are others on extendable swivel mounts - won't be a problem.

Just depends on the look you are after. Would you have a reason to extend and swivel the TV? Eg. So you can watch it from the kitchen or dining table.

                • @MS Paint: No need to extend. My living, dining, and kitchen is in an ā€˜Lā€™ shape.

In your opinion, what would you do?

                  • @Ladiesman24: You don't need swivel or extension capabilities. Just don't buy a mount that says flush, slim, micro gap etc and you'll be sweet.

Plenty of YouTube tutorials that will help you out with the actual installation procedure.

                    Again, measure twice, install once.

        The opposite of this

And yet, no 'TV positioned badly'.

Guess 'to low' and 'to high' are some niche interests.

Consider too there's usually height adjustment built into the wall mount so you install into the stud and adjust height to suit your seating position. Most people mount too high but I guess that's their preference.

    • Okay

      • I do hope you're not planning to use TV speakers for audio?

      Most people mount too high

There's even a subreddit dedicated to this. It's bloody hilarious.

What's the wall colour?, looks great.

  • Antenna plate there. Will be studs in the wall. It's like the builders expected you to hang a TV there. The studs are holding up your roof, they can easily hold a TV too. From the sounds of it for peace of mind you should pay someone to do it for you.

    • Will it be expensive?

      • Should be the easiest thing in the world for someone who done it a few times. Think about what else they can do while they are in your house, maybe install another TV wall mount in your bedroom or guest bedroom or something, probably can get it all done within the callout. If the TV is big and heavy you probably want them to mount it for you too, modern TVs are thin and heavy and dig into your hands when you lift them.

      • I'm sure there's cheaper/better options but can be used as a guide

  • Bunnings sell a stud and cable finder that sounds like you need to ensure that you mount the bracket into a stud and miss any cables.

I think it's the stud finder that beeps every time I leave the store. Very accurate in my experience.

      • So the misses stays at home when visiting bunnies?
