  • Does it include stopover in HK?

    • +11

OP probably should have put that in the post, maybe even on the second sentence of the description

      • +1

'Via Hongkong' doesn't necessarily mean a stopover though does it?

        • +1

Usually does, Cathay generally stops over HK!

          • +6

@Classo: There is a difference between transiting in Hong Kong (particularly if not leaving the airport) and having an intentional 24+ hour stopover in the city of Hong Kong.

            • +1

@UrMumsOnlyFan: Yep that's the difference between a layover and a stopover

        • Apologies if not. I took it as 'I've not looked past the headline, please answer questions for me'

          • @timthetoolman: CX is generally good and allows such. Might need to book direct or via a travel agent.

  • +10

10hour overnight layover in HK. That sucks. No wonder they are cheap. I hope JAL or ANA will have another sale with Sep dates soon.

Why is there a picture of a bat in the thumbnail?

    • +2

I thought it was a dragon. Too much GoT maybe.

  • When do deals for SEP 2025 come?

  • +1

I've been looking for flights to book for mid March 25 to Haneda from Brisbane is it way to early because I can't find anything ?.

    • +1

I can see plenty of flights, starting at around $1050 with an Australian carrier (Virgin), or cheaper with overseas carriers.

Mid-March is getting close to the start of Cherry Blossom flowering, which is a peak tourist time. The predictions for 2025 aren't out yet, but you can see the dates for 2024 on many websites.

      • Thanks I did see some of those but none are direct most are milk run flights with long layover I guess I'll wait a while & thanks for the info .

  • Anyone know if these prices include a checked bag?

    • +3

1 checked bag at this price I believe.

    • +8

Cathay is not a budget airline.

  • +3

Is there a way to find the cheapest multitrip option for a couple of days (up to a week) stop in Hong Kong? Even google flights doesn't do a very good multi trip comparison, sadly :(

    • +1

I’ve been using trip.com to do multi city searches and have found it very helpful.

  • -4

I would be worried with their newly pilots because their experienced pilots either sacked or quit around Covid-19 time to cut cost.

Relative had bad experience also with the cabin crew during LAX-HKG route. When my brother asked one of the can drink on the cart by pointing it, she was angrily saying don't point to my chest. WTF.

    https://youtu.be/xUQ3xnRTtKE?si=h0QdGAmGKxKcoMRw some interesting info.

    • +6

'all I did was point at her cans'

      • Didn't think about that lol

  • Any deals to HK?

  • +1

Possible to stopover in HK for a few days at these prices?

    • +1

Came online to ask the same !

  • No Brisbane sale price flights in November/December?

  • +1

Nice! Cathay flies into Haneda, which is a much more convenient airport for Tokyo.

Hong Kong stopovers only add a few dollars to the fare.

Open jaw fares are also possible:
    Into Tokyo out of Osaka
Into Taipei out of Tokyo (make your own way from Taiwan to Japan)

    • How to book open jaw fares on CX site?

      • +1

There's a Multi-city / stopover link on the right hand side of the homepage booking form.

You have to click "Save trip" after each segment to build your itinerary - it's a bit counter intuitive.

    • Any tips for the cheap stopover? I tried multiple dates and it increases the total by $400.

      • +1

Do the research on Google Flights until you find acceptable flights and then replicate the search on the CX website.

Experiment with dates. Don't expect school holidays and weekends to be as cheap as weekdays.

Try inserting the stopover on the way over instead of the way back.

        e.g.

        28 Oct MEL-HKG
        30 Oct HKG-HND
        14 Nov HND-MEL

        $856 direct with CX

    • Cathay only has a couple of flights a fay into HND, majority is to NRT so pdople would need to be careful.

Also CX flies NRT > TPE so you don't even need open jaw ticket granted if you buy a jal or ANA you'd be flying HND - TSA which is much more convenient on both ends.

  • still patiently waiting for a deal for late Dec and early Jan

    • late Dec like xmas period ??

  • any recommendations for a 2 week tour that's not $500 per day ?

  • The link to tokyo return from Brisbane (https://bookings.beatthatflight.com.au/flights/BNE0309TYO190…) is now $898 instead of advertised $848… Have I missed out?

  • Is it possible to just get on and off in HK?

  • Thanks, booked. A great option for Narita now that direct flights go to Haneda instead.
