Is this a genuine replica Eames ?

    • +2

      are you for real

    • The design and assembly could be considered ‘genuine’. The main material ‘PU’ is not.

      so it’s just ‘half’ genuine:

      It’s a genuin replica.

      replica's what?

It says in the advert it is a replica, where is it misleading in any way?

    • 🤦‍♂️

Counterfeits are not allowed but this isn’t a counterfeit. Replicas aren’t banned.

Surprisingly this chair is not that comfortable. I've sat on an original and it looks good but was a bit of a disappointment.

    • +3

I find most stylish furniture aren't made for comfort. Low back sofas, thinly padded chairs, weirdly shaped lounges that starts to hurt after 5min…

I wasn't aware this is not comfortable though. Good to know. The price we pay for form I guess.

    • Agreed. Have sat in one at a relatives place and it's terrible. It's not even the shape, the cushion is way too firm.

    • +4

So the Aldi one is probably more comfortable, and vegans can sit in it.

    • +1

Strange, I've at on an original and it was so comfortable I couldn't get up

    • +1

lmao, you are so silly. it's not made to sit in, it's made to be looked because it is an art piece and not furniture. lol

    • +5

this is the real bargain, what else hasn't gone up 100% in price since 2016?!

    • +1

500 comments about "it's gonna disintegrate in 1 hour" from the echo chamber peanut gallery. Any reports from the people that bought them 6 and 7 years ago? How long did it last?

      • +2

For what it's worth, I bought one back then and returned it straight away as it was really uncomfortable, not soft, I remember being really disappointed.

        • Same for me, returned within a week, such a disappointment.

  • thanks I'd buy this just to look at it for 9 months before it disintegrates to be honest.

  • Was going to hand over my CC for an IMG recliner. Glad I saw this!.

Is this online or in store only ?

I bought a couch from aldi. So much regret as it is so uncomfortable. Now no one sits on it and it just takes up space. I don't even feel like I could give it away for free.

Life lesson for me. Always try couches or other furniture that needs to be comfortable before you buy.

    • Return it - change of mind and get refund😅

      • You can within 60 days but I suspect that date has long since passed

Why do you still have it ? Put it out in hard rubbish, and replace it with a couch that isn't 💩 !

  • +1

Have the 2017 version, it's thankfully still not peeled (light use, no animal but 2 kids). OOS quite quickly from most Aldis at the time

    • +1

is it comfortable to sit on?

      • +3

Not really, maybe the OG one is but on this one I can't for too long, hence the light use
        It looks great otherwise!

        • Thanks..might look at the TW one instead. I've bought a chair/sofa before from ALDI and it's collecting dust as a clothes rack

  • I've been using such set for years. This the most comfortable chair ever if you put your legs on the second part. Perfect for WFH because you can put a laptop or full size keyboard on the armrest. So comfy so I could sleep there as good as in a proper bed. But! After a couple of years I developed an issue in upper part of the spine that selfcured when I stopped using the chair.
Yes, PU looked horrible after 1.5 years on the sitting part, but the head side remained well.

  • +1

Buying one for decoration, no one is allowed to sit

    • +2

Like the old Greek/Italian homes. Wrap it in plastic and place it the room no one is allowed to go in.

    • Your own Frasier set.

  • +8

Don't buy this PU rubbish. Once the PU cracks and peels there is no going back. It's landfill in waiting.

  • +2

    PU will go ugly 100%.

    • The Secret Lab gaming chairs use Pu leather too.

But those chairs go for years. I've seen 10 year old SL CHAIRS in good nick.

  • +2

No idea why would anyone spend 300 on this garbage, I'm pretty sure it's gonna start flaking soon and off to the bin. And squeaking.

  • I’m sorry but what’s PU stand for here?

Sounds like it’s an important item here when it comes to this chair and in general when considering to buying a chair like this?

    • +1

polyurethane leather… its not real leather…

  • Mmm “punch ons with pensioners” lock it in Eddie

  • These replicas have alot of issues, they break within 2-3 years tops. I got one of the expensive ones back in the day that came with 5 years warranty, and it died 4.5 years in, they refused to replace it , but gave me a store credit instead.

    • Which store is this?

      • +1

Milan Direct, they no longer exist.

  • I'm sure Gumtree and markets sellers will be charged up

Friends don’t let friends buy replica furniture (no, replica anything). This is gross.

    • -4

agreed, but i think you just offended most asians. lol

  • Is it VEGAN?

@beltdrive: Dont see why i should waste anytime on google when i can be on ozb

  • Ok, we all know PU furniture it not great. Does that mean that all the replicas are terrible? I've seen a few of these replicas online with varying prices and grades of leather.

"real leather Eames Lounge Chair with Ottoman $1299"

  • To my understanding even Herman Miller makes these in China now so who is to say what's a replica

    • To my understanding even Herman Miller makes these in China now so who is to say what's a replica

What a stretch. That’s like saying fake Nike shoes are the same as real Nike shoes because they’re made in the same country

      • I know a lot of people cut themselves for Herman Miller but the brand is almost nothing without the Eames association, and it's massively devalued by shifting production to China. So it's a copy of a copy of a copy. A simulacrum, hence an American copy made with American plywoods and leather might be more authentic to Eames vision than the current Herman Miller version. It'd be more like RM Williams shifting their production to China and continuing to demand high prices.

        • There’s always the Vitra version if the HM one is no good

  • +1

Classic design, but this is nothing more than a shoddy fake. The term “replica” is far too generous

  • is this a chair for fat people?

    • +1

      no you’ll break it

  • Same price 6 1/2 years ago with interesting reviews
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/345893

    • +1

ALDI is impervious to inflation. Impressive

  • If the leather didnt peel it would be a deal. The leather will peel in less than 6 months, and thats even if you have it sitting there unused!

  • +1

Its just a cheap chair I dont get it have over hundred upvotes, are people really that poor have to buy fake to show off?

  • +1

Then there's me, lucky AF to find an ALL LEATHER set from the 70's just being brought into a chock-a-block op-shop, end of the day. My daughter sat in it and begged me to buy it- lol. Looked like it had been in storage (dusty/dirty/needed TLC). Asked the woman at the register the price. I think because they were so full, she just said, "if you pay the $20 delivery, it's yours"!

We buffed it and it's THE fought-over chair in the house now, lol.

  • +1

was thinking of buying but nah not PU again. Would rather sit on a Bunnings picnic chair than buy PU leather.

  • +2

Why bother? The quality will be terrible.

    • Quality would be ok if its used as a prop for 6 months or so, but with pu leather its a consumable item. Will peel within a year or sooner.

  • Is it online or instore only?

Got one this morning, the store has 5 and sold out in 20 mins, the box is huge so if you have a sedan you may have to unbox it to fit, there are smaller boxes inside. https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/74368/113490/14e9922e-…

    • +1

My local had 6, can confirm the box is massive
In the 20 mins it took me to open up my box and put the pieces in my sedan no one else had bought one, so stock might stick around

    • Any good or junk like the wicker outdoor setting they were offloading a few years ago?

    • How'd it turn out? Is it comfy?

  • my local had 4 - couldn't fit in my car so had to borrow an SUV

  • Saw an old mate buy last one off the floor this morning. Aldi worker said they had two more out the back. Old mate took the other two as well. I don't get what he'll do with 3 of these?

    • Resell on marketplace

    • Probably already on eBay for triple the price!

    • Knob head

  • +2

I just bought one. I missed out first go (South Melb - had 2) but my good wife found me one in Chirnside Park (they had plenty (8) as probably no one can afford them out there!).

Everyone complaining about the PU, it is what it is. $300 vs $2K at HN for real Leather or $13K for the real deal. I'm happy with the deal for a beautiful looking chair that won't be sat in every day so will probably last years! I've wanted one for a long time and could never justify the $2K at HN.

Be careful the box is huge and heavy (32kg) and wouldn't fit into my wife's boot (Astra). I have to go collect tonight in my suv.

    • +2

Any feedback on comfort? Reviews are very 50/50….

    • How is it? Comfy?

  • +1

One left at Fortitude Valley. And yes the box is large, would not even fit in the back of my small wagon. So thanks for the heads up and took myself some scissors to open the box and then separate out the items for an easy fit.

  • One available at Aldi Canterbury - 73 Jeffrey St, Canterbury NSW 2193
I just saw it now and I was very tempted, but unfortunately I have no room for it.

  • 2 left at aldi emerald hills, nsw. Didnt fit in my kia cerato hatch, so had to be rescued by my partner in the ute to bring it home.

  • Just reporting, I bought one last week, and tried to assemble on the weekend.

Discovered one of the bolts for the headreast part was loose, and the bolt is not accessible as its under the upholstery.

Am returning for replacement/refund. As im repacking it, the other bolt popped out.

So not risking it again after moving this ahole of a box from the store and back up/down a flight of stairs.

  • I went all around Melbourne yesterday and found one at Springvale South in stock, so if you want it get it. It looks shit, so that's why I didn't buy it. Lots of crap at Alidi.
