for $9 this could be a fun game!

    • +5

I'd pay $9 to get rid of my copy. Worst game i've ever tried.

      • +2

        address please 0_0

      • +2

        Oh please…

You've definitely played many worse games. I know I have.

Finished it and its DLC. It's a 6.5/10. Perfectly playable for $9.

I'm interested to know why you'd say it's "the worst game I've ever tried". That seems crazy to me.

        • Just because you thought it was OK doesn't mean everyone does.

      • AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • +5

Super cheap. Reviews suggest it's kind of a 5/10 experience, but it could be $9 worth of fun for someone.

  • -4

Can trade it in to CEx for $7. So really, only $2, and for that it sounds like a whole lot of bang for the buck.

    • +9

Ooooh time to dog whistle about politics!

      Pathetic

      • +15

Credit where it's due, he's a puppie that learnt how to blow its own dog-whistle

    • +42

Yeah, gamers are notoriously moral and wouldn't even consider playing a game that requires you to play from the point of view of a criminal or scofflaw.

That's why the Grand Theft Auto games are so wildly unpopular.

      • +13

I only play exciting video games that align with my self-righteous morality like freecell and minesweeper.

Sometimes if I feel rebelious I dabble in some euro truck simulator.

        • +13

I've never driven trucks in Europe so I can't relate to the MC, kills the game for me.

        • +12

I don't think it's even as straightforward as that, it's just the inability to divorce "this game had bad dialogue and uninspiring combat" as the main fault from "this game features a black female criminal as the heroine".

As though the game would be more interesting and better received if the main character was a white man who respected the judicial system.

The eagerness to scorekeep this as "things woke has ruined" is also disappointing, agreed.

        • Euro truck simulator when AMERICAN truck simulator exists?

          Communist…

        • +14

So under your "gamers need to relate to the MC" theory, the reason Grand Theft Auto (which spells out what it is on the tin) is so popular is because most of the people buy it are themselves also carjackers and bank robbers and murderers?

And the people disappointed with "Forspoken" were hoping it had more to do with making predictions of future events or bewitching people, and then got bait-and-switched into being a black woman with superpowers fighting aliens?

You've really not thought your ideas out there mate

            • +7

@PuppieWayne: I like how you don't mention "serial criminal" at all in the paragraph commenting on how fantastically popular the GTA series is and what sort of character it lets you play as.

Maybe you can have a little bit of a think about that.

                • +3

                  @PuppieWayne: "I did think"

                  Nah you just parroted

                • +15

@PuppieWayne: I think your problem is a lack of imagination.

Accepting the game execution is terrible (bad dialogue, uninspiring combat), doesn't mean that the idea behind it was.

The MC is an abandoned orphan who grows up disadvantaged, falls into the criminal system and finds themself basically powerless in every facet of their life. They're getting jammed down by the justice system and victimized by their old gang and then suddenly they're transported to an alien planet, given a ton of power and the ability to do whatever they want with this power. Now they're deciding which systems they are going to prop up, which ones to tear down, and make decisions they'll only be accountable to themself for. And apparently at the end of the game they have to decide whether to embed themself in the new alien power system they've set up, or abandon all their powers to return to their responsibility on Earth.

It's the hero's journey, and we get to see the hero evolve and change over it.

I don't think it would be "better" if the person taking that journey started off as a white man with a comfortable life. And I don't think you need to imagine yourself as a "serial criminal" to enjoy exploring the ideas of the game.

Either way, "woke studio trying to normalize being a black serial criminal" or whatever you spouted off about is a bad take. It's fine not to like the ideas, but you need to understand them to have a meaningful take.

I've given you a lot to think about, not that you will.

                  • @CrowReally: They should let you choose. You can play as the girl or some guy having a mid life crisis.

                  • -4

@CrowReally: I don't even disagree with much of what you've said, though is the level of condescension throughout really necessary? jesus.

            • +3

@PuppieWayne: "Not a single person in the world doesn't dream about speeding your car to the limit and just smash into another car."

Woah, really? Thats what everyone dreams about? Excuse me whilst I go ponder my life and where I'm going wrong. I'm a little blown out that that is ANYONE'S dream, never mind everyone.

    • +15

Dude, she's convicted of theft and sentenced to community service. If this is triggering to you, I really don't think you should pick up almost any other action game ever made. Let's face it, your computer game career is over.

I'm glad you loved the combat though, that's nice.

        • +11

Don't like don't buy, stop pretending you're saving humanity.

        • -1

The studio went bust.. so you tell me how popular that game is and how that would relate to other AAA games in my library?

Who told you they went bust?

A 10 second google search told me that Luminous Productions was a subsidiary of Square Enix and they merged last year.

          • +7

@youfnc: Fact checking usually isn't high on the priority list when you're dog whistling and parroting.

See the highlighting of key words and ignoring every single other point if it doesn't suit his agenda.

            • -4

@boomslung: Yes, fact check isn't really high on those that loved to reply.

"Publisher Square Enix has just confirmed via a short press release that its subsidiary studio, Luminous Productions, will be shutting down. Its developers will be folded into the larger Square Enix development arm."

They were already a sub of SquareEnix.. and to date, released only one title which bombed.

But yes, let's pretend the studio was highly successful.. 🙄

              • -1

@PuppieWayne: My source was taken from Wikipedia. Can you link the entire article where you took your quote from? I'm interested to see what the next two paragraphs read in your article.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't mergers and going bust are two different things?

              • -1

@PuppieWayne: Forspoken started out as a tech demo that they tried to spin off as a game.

It's bad because it was always an asset reuse exercise. The "studio" was always just an asset recycling DLC factory.

                • @boomslung: The luminous engine is a 12 year old decrepit game engine that they were trying to squeeze the last drop of blood out of. They didn't "shut down the studio" so much as they stopped using the luminous branding.

                • -2

@boomslung: Nothing you've wrote is correct. So much for facts checking.

Enix has different studio for their different IP.. Lumi was no exception.

"Square Enix established Luminous Productions in 2018, with the original team consisting of Final Fantasy XV developers.

The studio focused not only on game development, but also on R&D and work on its in-house engine called Luminous Engine."

The link is too long but google this.

"Luminous Productions to merge with Square Enix, ceasing to exist after Forspoken failed launch"

Anyway.. I'm out. Amusing how many people were offended by such a shitty game world. 🤣

                  • +1

@PuppieWayne: I think you've failed to adequately parse through corporate speak due to your inferior intellect or just being intentionally ignorant.

Saying that they've shut down a wholly internal division within their organisation without any layoffs is like saying that McDonalds closed down because they stopped making all-day breakfast.
Wow they moved office furniture. What a loss!

                    • @boomslung: …The studio focused not only on game development, but also on R&D and work on its in-house engine called Luminous Engine.

Yes and what games used the luminous engine so far despite it being 12 years old?

                      Oh right…

The luminous engine is a failure and they're trying to bury everything associated with it.

                    • -2

@boomslung: Says the person that posted total garbage and launch a personal attack rather that stating facts

So.. where is this recycle DLC you mentioned.

And yes if a branch of Macca, that is owned privately via franchise starts making loss it will shut down.

Keep thinking you are corporate savvy.

The engine wasn't a failure as the combat system was amazing.. the game MC was shit and brainless but won't stop talking - kinda like you actually.

                      • @PuppieWayne: Just stay in school to improve your reading comprehension before trying to dog whistle. You ok kid?

                      • @PuppieWayne: https://www.kotaku.com.au/2018/11/75-of-final-fantasy-xvs-dl…

When you can't comprehend Google maybe you should stop posting.

                        • -2

@boomslung: "used in two of company's titles—Final Fantasy XV, an entry in their Final Fantasy franchise, and an original IP titled Forspoken.

In early 2018, the development team of Final Fantasy XV was established by Square Enix as a new subsidiary studio dubbed Luminous Productions. "

As I mentioned, LS was established to work on a IP but funny.. no mentioned of DLC recycle..

Oh no "Back in April, we were told there’d be four pieces of DLC coming for the 2016 game, with episodes called Ardyn, Aranea, Luna and Noctis. Only Ardyn remains now, and it’ll be out in March 2019" - mentioned by Square.. nothing to do with LS.

Do you know how to read?

Maybe you should be the one going back to school and stop posting instead?

                          • @PuppieWayne: You maybe want to do some research into the reasons the dlc was cancelled not just read the headline. The DLCs were being worked on by luminous productions. They got cancelled because the head of the studio resigned. So yes it does have something to do with things but you're too busy throwing a kid tantrum to think.

The studio continued to develop forspoken because it used existing assets and they needed to recycle all the garbage from the luminous mess before retiring the luminous engine money pit.

Stop commenting when your knowledge of matters is so shallow that you twist yourself sideways trying to catch up

                          • @PuppieWayne: Sigh. Why keep posting when it takes 10 seconds to check your facts before posting garbage that makes you look stupid?

                            https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Luminous_Productions

Luminous Productions was headed by Hajime Tabata as it CCO and the company was tasked with developing paid downloadable content for Final Fantasy XV.

                            • -4

@boomslung: "Tasked" that means it was one of many projects for LS, it certainly wasn't the sole reason LS was created as some dipshit here was saying..

"Since the release of Final Fantasy XV, the aim of the company was to create AAA video games."

Go back to school kid, you are embarrassing.

                  • +1

@PuppieWayne: I didn't defend the game. I called you out for lying to strengthen an argument. On two separate comments you claimed the studio went bankrupt/bust when they clearly didn't.

    • +5

What is the part that makes it “woke”? Be very specific and brief.

      • +5

I mean, let's face it, the word "woke" has a one-word definition for these guys. And it ain't "white". We probably shouldn't have taken up the bait with this little nerd. I'm guilty too.

        • +4

Nothing wrong with calling out dumb behaviour. Yes, they get engagement, but the engagement is just a sugar hit.

We know they're not going to learn the actual lesson of the day, but hopefully a stack of negative attention on "that time I tried to pass off culture war ideas as my own for instant approval, but then lacked the facilities to back them up" might prevent it happening as readily the next time.

    • Guys, it is just a game. Some people like it, others don't and based on reviews a lot didn't like it. We all got different tastes and opinions on what makes games good or bad, but it is nothing worth to fight over. There was a demo for the game which I didn't like much just like a lot of people and it wasn't because the game is somehow woke. Try the demo, if you like it you buy it, if you don't like it then don't buy it. Pretty simple.
I am not saying this game is great or even somewhat good, just saying no reason to debate over it. Also no reason to be happy over game studios closing as it literally means less games for us to play.

    • Hit the nail on the head mate.
It's nothing more than EDG/DEI pandering turd wrapped in a 'game'

  • +5

$9. I spend more at gong cha lol. Nice find op.

    • +5

Gong cha still better value :^)

      • +2

maybe, for like 5 minutes before i smash my two large Earl Grey Milk Tea & 3Js (half sugar half ice).

at least this can still be useful after im over it -

eg coaster , frisbee, secret santa re-gift , bird repellant pendant disk etc

  • +1

    Nice find OP

Shipping for $2.29 - better than going 30km's to the closest JB Hifi

  • +7

Not worth the plastic it comes in honestly

    • +2

      You know what, I agree.

I'll be ashamed to even have this on my shelf, and I'll need to contribute to environmental wastage too? They should be paying me to have a physical copy.

  • +2

Got a $10 coupon for signing up to JB, so is basically free. Seems like a good deal.

    • Make sure you read whether it requires you to spend more than $10 to redeem the coupon.

  • Thanks OP. Ordered and it is ready for pickup.

  • +1
    • Thanks for that - I'll add it in the description.

  • +9

Your time values more than that

  • +3

    Forgotten

  • +8

It's genuinely awful, and this is from someone who played the thing to the end.

    • +1

I thought it was average, and this is from someone who played til the end, and the DLC. There's better games, and many, many worse games out there.

I'd pay $9 any day of the week ending in Y.

  • +3

    I'll buy it when it's $5.

    • No you won’t.

  • +1

Watched an episode of the internet historian about it, that is probably the biggest spotlight it will ever get

  • Same price at EB

  • Can this be used as trade bait or is it on the exclusion list?

  • -2

Heard this is a woke game with involvement from sweet baby Inc. no thanks

    • +8

It sounds like the people who made your mind up for you did a solid job

      • -1

the solid reviews it’s getting helped me make up my mind, masses don’t lie

  • +3

If only this game was as entertaining as this comments section.

  • Bought for $19 from JB about a month back, didn't like it much. Was wondering what to play when Amazon dropped prices on AC mirage :)
PS: it was $9 back then too at EBgames but postage was $10 more. My local EB and JB are just adjacent shops so went to EB first to see if they have it available but had no luck so reverted to JB.

  • +5

Sad I got this earlier (Ps5 exclusive + SquareEnix game = yay!)

Suggested use of Forwhatever.this.is… as follows:

    • Disc reverse side: Excellent drinks coaster in a gaming room. (buy 4 or more copies for best effect!)

    • Disc case: Replacement spare

    • Cover art sleeve: Paper mache

  • -7

censored esg funded mediocre drivel not even worth 5$

  • +1

Thanks OP, used my bday voucher and just paid $2.30 postage $$

Prob get more than that when i use as a Tradein of some sort in future.

  • "oh i remember when the trailer for this dropped it looked kinda cool, wonder what the comments thought of it"

    opens comments

    "…oh"

  • Damn I wonder if pc will ever get a discount like this game looks fun for $9

  • I wanted this to be good, sad it wasn't. Too many games in my backlog to be trying games almost universally considered mid

  • +1

I picked it up for $9 a couple months ago, didn’t know anything about it, just thought it was cheap for a brand new ps5 game. by far the worst game I’ve ever played.

Not worth playing if they had have payed me $9 to play for an hour.

the main character (forgotten her name) is incredibly unlikeable. Like viscerally unlikeable. I honestly can’t think of any other character in a game/film/book I’ve ever hated so much.

the dialogue is painful to sit through, like really, really bad. the story/writing outside her dialogue is also so incredibly bad it’s just inexcusable.

Some super egregious story examples I recall off the top of my head: there’s a cutscene where she’s running away from some people who have guns. She does some Spider-Man parkour shit and jumps over a wire fence. Then she stands on the other side smirking and gloating like a child with a sht eating grin and talks sht and gives them the finger etc. The writers are so brain dead that they aren’t capable of writing characters that aren’t also intellectually impaired. No one in this universe can conceive of shooting someone through a chicken wire fence.

Another part that jumps out is she’s got a bag full of cash and it’s right next to her bed. She wakes up and her apartment is on fire. She wonders around slowly in the burning building like a mentally challenged person looking for something (her cat?) I can’t remember what exactly because I was screaming PICK UP THE BAG. Instead of taking 2 seconds to sling the cash over her back she wonders around looking for the cat or whatever and then of course the fire is too big now to get the bag and she loses the money.

She’s not only incredibly sure of herself but also so mentally challenged she should be wearing a helmet. Total dunning kruger case.

Basically every scene is like this. Maddeningly stupid.

To make it all worse and just drive home that she has no redeeming qualities at all is and literally has just three characteristics ((profanity), annoying and idiot) her dialogue is just atrocious, like the worst you’ve ever heard.

It’s super meta, breaks the fourth wall a lot, but not in any creative way, she’s not even dumping exposition in a lazy writing way, she’s often just literally saying stuff like “I just leveled up” when you level up. Because the writers think their audience is as dumb as they are and the main character needs to literally announce everything she’s doing. It’s maddening.

She never has anything good to say about anyone except herself and she never shuts up. She’s talking to herself or her magic bracelet thing (who is also annoying) basically the entire game. It feels like it was written by people older and completely out of touch with youth culture, trying really hard to appeal to and pretend to be 20somethings in a “hello fellow kids” steve buscemi way.

There’s a lot of visual artistic problems with the game too. The graphics are good, but the art direction is bad. The world design all feels very stock and generic. Like they just bought assets of the unreal store or something. There’s no consistent art style or visual identity. It’s just very bland and forgettable and uninspiring. She comes from New York or wherever into this medieval style world so of course she’s wearing different clothes, but instead of like getting new clothes to blend in and match the style of world and the muted colour tones and browns/greys of the world she gets like a neon hot pink space suit cape techno rave outfit somehow.

Everything about this game sucks. It’s so terrible in every way (but particularly the main characters dialogue, impossible to like personality and the nonsensical ridiculousness of how everyone acts and behaviours) that it feels like they must have done it on purpose for it to be this bad. Like they were all getting laid off or something and it was done out of spite/revenge to tank the game idk.
