I'm seeking the advice of any Samsung Z Fold owners in the OzB community. A very senior staff member at work had a Z Fold 4 purchased through our Telstra Enterprise account and now they're reporting a black line through the middle at the fold, plus the touch is not working any more. It's well & truly still under warranty so I'm not worried about that, but I'm wondering if other users have had similar issues and if it was hard to resolve the problem. The other question is whether the Z Fold 5 is any better and if it's worth sticking with this series or if we bite the bullet and go to a more traditional (and likely reliable) candybar format like the S24+ Ultra.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 - Screen Issues?
Comments
it's always been a risk with samsung folds.
you can't have a flexible electronic screen and not have failures.
older posts/deals regarding folds have users mentioning this issue - lines, bleeds , or touch failure
I've still got my Fold 4. The inner screen protector eventually started coming off at the seam. Got it replaced and a month later the next one started doing the same thing. So I just took it off and is fine. The only issue now I have is that it doesn't fully open flat. I have to get around to getting it fixed, probably dust in the hinges. Otherwise it's been good to me.
I had the screen protector start lifting at the fold and it "stuck" to the actual screen underneath and ripped it.
This resulted in a black line down the middle of the fold and the touch stopped working.
Luckily I was able to swap it for a new one under the Samsung Care+ program.I just noticed my Fold3 screen protector and my Flip3 screen protector are also starting to lift at the fold/hinge.
The screen fold does seem to be a week point, based on my experience.
Had a Fold 4 and it developed an issue where when I opened the fold the screen would flicker and the phone would crash. I received a replacement Fold 5 under warranty.
Backing up and restoring is the most annoying part of the process.
To me the positives of the Fold is worth the risk of issues, and issues will get less and less over time. And don't forget you're mainly going to be hearing about people who have issues.
My fold 4 inner screen died about 16 months in. No black lines, just the screen 100% totally dead. It started flickering at the beginning, then a week later it's gone.
I took it Samsung on a Sunday, I got it back on Wednesday. They change inner screen, outer screen, frame, hinge and batteries. I'm assuming they just moved my back panel with the mobo to a new shell.
Everything was seamless, new hinge feels more solid that the old one.
The fold 6 comes out in a couple of weeks, so perhaps wait for that if you're contemplating an upgrade.
