Same kit at TotalTools selling for $639 - https://www.totaltools.com.au/192852-dewalt-18v-2-piece-2-x-…
Cheaper by $190! This is a nice, powerful kit. The impact drill is one of the best Dewalt has to offer.

Here's a comparison video to show why the DCF850 is a beast yet light to carry.

The hammer drill comes integrated with a super bright LED light that can be adjusted at different angles and can be used
as a work light (ON/OFF switch) that stays on for 20 mins and not just turn off when drilling stops.

There's another kit being sold at Bunnings/TotalTools/SydneyTools for $364.65 - https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-4ah-xr-atomic-2-piece…
It comes with the much slower DCF809 impact driver (see video above). Basically, for an extra $84.35, you're getting much better equipment!
The cheaper kit ($364.65) comes with 2x "standard XR" 4AH and bonus 1x 5AH battery via redemption.

The more expensive $449 kit has 2x 5AH "PowerStack" batteries, albeit with bonus weaker 1.7Ah "PowerStack" battery.

The newer Powerstack battery cost nearly 2x more than their standard range battery range,
for example: DeWalt DCB184-XE 5.0Ah $128.20 - https://sydneytools.com.au/product/dewalt-dcb184-18v-5-0ah-x…
DeWalt DCBP518-XJ 5.0Ah PowerStack - $213.70 - https://sydneytools.com.au/product/dewalt-dcbp518xj-18v-50ah…

Here's a discussion why Powerstack is better than their standard XR range: https://new.reddit.com/r/Dewalt/comments/12ziqwl/powerstack_…
https://new.reddit.com/r/Dewalt/comments/183byet/2x_5ah_powe…
"PowerStacks are designed to deliver energy faster. Essentially a 1.7 Ah gives performance comparable to the XR 5 AH battery."
"One other thing many people overlook about the PowerStacks is that Dewalt claims double the charging cycles over the life of the battery"
"I have both battery types, but only feel the difference between the PowerStacks and regular batteries on tools that are working hard"

Now, here's why buying kit version works out much better than buying standalone.

For those who can wait longer, the DCF860 just landed, but it is more expensive and not available in a discounted kit. It's bulkier but pretty much demolishes the DCF850 and some are calling it the world's most powerful cordless impact driver, of course, most jobs won't require this, however it has a super bright LED angle light that can be turned on/off (good for using the drill as a worksite light). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lInV0GrqgN4

  • For standalone pricing - a fairer comparison is to take 50% off RRP as that is what you can expect to pay on FB Marketplace/Gumtree. This is a great deal nontheless.

    • This comes with 3years warranty and receipt, what happens when you need a replacement? :|

      • +1

It's a rugged power tool…. I would take the upfront savings vs. off chance of having to claim warranty :)

        • +2

I own Dewalt tools and would only agree for their impact drivers and drills.

For gardening tools and chainsaws Dewalt is abysmal. I've had to return the chainsaw for repair twice and it's still leaking oil. The lawn mower is only 'average'. I regret not going 'Ego'.

          • @Ltsmash: Agree on the mower.

          • @Ltsmash: All chainsaws leak oil but yes the dewalt mower we get here is crap. Most dewalt tools are as good as any of the main trade brands but there are a few dogs in the range. If you buy from an authorised retailer you can try for 30 days and then return for a full refund although good luck trying that with Sydney Tools!

re DW gardening tools being crap I've got a chainsaw, pole saw, hedge trimmer, line trimmer and a couple of blowers and all have worked well though the 54v chainsaw is probably the one I like least and the 54v line trimmer is still no substitute for a 2 stroke stihl

            • @mauricem: My lightly-used DC850 has an issue which needs warranty repair. When left unused for a bit it will run at speed 1 even when the switch is in the 3 position. Needs to be toggled, run, then toggled back again to get to full speed. The atomics seem to have a few more issues than the full size.

              • @leyton01: Saw this comment on Youtube on how to fix that issue, which apparently is very common with all these Dewalt drills. That's why on the latest 860, they changed the switch design.

@default9740: "Try stripping down the 850, clean the speed switch with contact cleaner followed by compressed air. There’s a bit of grease used on assembly, add dust and grit to that, the contacts get bridged."

              • @leyton01: Reading through on a dewalt fb group, there seems to be a higher mention of issues with the DCF850. It was on my wish list but I think I'll just make do with my current Ryobi for now. Will wait for the 860 users to provide their feedback after it's been on the market a while.

The DCD805 is solid though and I'm happy owning and using it.
