Gift Cards - Are They Treated Like Cash

Hi

So like the big stores like Harvey norman, bing Lee, good guys can they reject gift card if after negotiating price you say you will be paying by gift card?

Thanks

  • Don’t see why not - it’s reducing the liability the company holds anyway

    • Thanks. Just wanted to make sure. I heard sometimes 24 hour delay for the e gift card. So was thinking maybe buy before hand. But yeah was worried

  • You realise "discount for cash" hasn't been a thing for years, right?

How you pay doesn't affect the discount. Your options are cash, card, or gift card (which is between the other 2), and none of which make any difference to the salesperson

Sure, they'd get a kickback if you were signing up to their 3 years interest free credit, or whatever it is these days, but that's another thing all together

    • +1

maybe a small business cash payment would be a thing since they can then just not report it

    • Yep, was aware of that

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure.

Just wondering what are disadvantages of the interest free credit. And any other advantages

I heard it there was reg fee and also if dont pay in time you are charged a very exorbitant interest rate for the entire period? Anything else?

      • They say “interest free” but there’s a monthly admi charge on the account for $8-$10 which is an absolute rort.

        • Absolutely!

  • There was a report here years ago from a Harvey Norman employee where someone negotiated a really sharp price and proceeded to pay with multiple amex card for the statement credits. They were knocked backed.

    • Thanks

I was worried about things like that happening
