Yeah, I'm basing it off the invoice date which is the same as anniversary date for the connection. I am hoping to give them notice on 17th June so I'm covered for 30 days before the next invoice drops.

          • @search: I got prorated invoiced for the month I used the service ie 8 Jun 2024 - 22 Jun 2024.
I remember Exetel charging me for full 30days after I moved.

    Isn't it a TARGETED offer?

    • +1

      No. Just click the link.

      • Thanks

  • Previous deal didn't indicate the best experience for whoever took a punt, I think I'll pass

  • +1

I have a Telstra gen 2 router. Does anyone know if I could easily use this to access Optus NBN? I am not keen on having to buy the Optus modem for $306

    • I need to know this too! Might call Optus and see what they say.

    • +2

Telstra SM G2 works with Optus.

      @emgee @alwaysis

      • +1

Ah great, thanks a lot!! 😊

        • VOIP won't work though, if you plan on using it

          • +1

@cephh: All good, at least I don’t use VOIP. Thanks for the heads up.

      • +1

        Thank you

    • U just need router for NBN connection. If u don’t have ur own router just buy wifi 6 routers. Which will cost you between $75 to 100 max. One in jb is $89(TP link AX10) Good for 100/20 Connection.
After that you can switch as many times you want without worrying anything. You can save more money than router cost.

  • -3

How is $79 a month a deal with a company that gave everyone's details away so easily…

Seems everyone's just forgotten about that huh

    • +1

Yeah exactly. Optus are perm banned for me after demonstrating to me that their sysadmins are completely incompetent and the company has either no security policy or no oversight of the incompetent sysadmins.

    • -1

If you think it's just optus you are deluded

      • You're right, but the way they handled it is bonkers. It reflects their usually poor service to customers to be fair.

  • +1

Is it possible to get a static IP with their NBN plans?

  • +1

Can't see anywhere to delay connection. Currently on superloop business and need to give the bastards 30 days notice..

    • Same On exetel

  • Anyone on optus confirm if torrent sites are blocked or not

    • they're blocked on all RSPs, no?
you need to change your dns or use a vpn

      • Pretty sure the RSP needs to be of a certain size before the dns blocking thing has to be enforced, happy to be corrected on this though.

    • From memory a while ago, yes. Need proxy mirror sites or vpn

    • should probably look into using a good paid vpn regardless of whether they're blocked or not.

  • +1

Signed up previously and got a credit enquiry against my file, not sure whether it's a hard or soft one though..

  • i am shocked that people are willing to still continuing with Optus, after they had 2 data breach's

    • -1

consoomers need to consooom! and holding an incompetent company accountable is just too much effort >:(

      • I think its more simpler than that customers are either lazy, don't care or stupid, or all 3, they either don't want to know or don't understand why they should be moving to another provider, thing is Optus knows this and preys on those people that have no clue.

    • -2

lol the other ISPS / other companies are one incident away from having the same thing happen to them.

No one gives two (profanity) about security in Australia as there are no repercussions for leaking everyone's data.

      • its all well and good until someone gets there identity stolen and there bank account emptied.

    • Just happened with TicketTech.

They tell me hackers have 3 points of my data. Other press reports say they've taken about 12 points.

TT lied to me and is downplaying it.

  • Signed up thanks op

  • +1

Couldn't offer me enough points or incentives to ever go with Optus again

    • What was so bad?
      customer service?
      dropouts?
      speed?

This deal is tempting as I pay for Optus sports anyway.. (can't get out of this one due to the monopoly…)

      • Customer service continual dropouts that they kept blaming my connection but when I switch to Superloop never had an issue after that Nothing had changed. I had to give 30 days notice. Just bad service. And just trying to understand what customer service said from an overseas call centre

But I'll be honest. I had my data leaked so all up left a bad taste

  • +3

just signed but didn't get the option to choose a start date?

    • +3

AFAIK Optus will try to connect you immediately after the order is placed.
Wish there's an option to specify future start date

    • There is, You must missed. I signed up 3 months ago, I picked a date 2 weeks later.

      • Is it after the "Place Order" button?

        • +1

I have completed the sign up process.
They will call you to confirm few things and you can tell them the request start date

        • +1

you only get an order confirmation after you press Place Order there no where to choose a start date

very strange as usually you would need to enter payment details for other providers

        • +2

Managed to call 1300 929 949 and quoted the order number for them to update the start date. It was pretty straightforward

          • @Poor Ass: I wonder if you can request this through the chat function as well

            • +1

              @yojabbajabba: Maybe but I called

Didn't have to wait more than a few minutes before talking to someone and didn't need to be transferred so far call centre has been great

              • @Poor Ass: Thanks , signed up and got the activation pushed back.

                • @yojabbajabba: Good stuff

did you use chat or phone?

                  • @Poor Ass: Used the number you provided - called 5 mins after ordering, they picked up straight away and they processed my credit check on the spot.

                • @yojabbajabba: Did they activate it correctly?
Page three has many people saying it went live in 48 hrs.

      • +1

negative there is not… not this time anyway

  • How long have people had to wait for Optus take to churn their NBN connection after ordering (FTTP)? My current 6-month deal ends on the 21st June, so want to time the churn effectively.

    • I'm on HFC, and it took them 2-3 days, definitely not instant for me.

      • Can I please ask if you put anything for username and password?

Mine also HFC and doesn't connect but Optus say it's active

        • no, wan connection type is automatic IP

  • Your move Telstra!

Having said that Leaptel is $75/month for 12 months. Yes I have two separate services at two properties with Leaptel and the speeds are max every time I test morning, day or night.

    • I've got 3 months left on my Leaptel 50mbit plan which has now increased to $65 a month. They've been great, and as much as I know dealing with Optus is going to absolutely suck, I'm likely to leave Leaptel early for this deal and then churn again in 3 months.

  • thx, signed up and find out i need to give notice to Superloop, looks like optus also has 30 days notice too

    • Where do you see this? CIS says you can cancel anytime by notifying optus.

  • +2

Unfortunately, a lot of the companies we are signed up with currently now have a 30 day cancellation notice clause. Taking advantage of these deals popping up is becoming more difficult without old pro-rata terms

    • +1

yep, i am actually just aware of that now, just need to more planning ahead in the future. looks like it's norm now with a lot of ISPs

      • Yeh, this can be mitigated though if the ISP your signing up to has a delayed connection option. For example leaptel. I cancelled my superloop for the 12th of next month and leaptel allows you to select a connection activation date so that's pretty cool

  • +4

Not a single person is saying Optus is reliable and this deal is worth it…
Even with wanting the discount for OptusSports, I think I gotta pass on this one…

    • Optus has been reliable for me, no drop outs.

  • Does Optus use CGNAT?

    • +4

Optus don't use CG-NAT on nbn.

      • Is this from recent personal experience? I had the same question, seeing conflicting answers elsewhere.

        • +3

Optus only use CG-NAT on mobile and 4G/5G home broadband.

          • +4

@Twix: I give the correct info and get negged. Thanks.

  • Along with a fat chance of having your personal and billing data stolen and exposed on the dark web.

    • +1

mine had already been stolen by Optus.

  • +1

Optus always has an issue with my address. My address is xxxA after I selected my address xxxA then is changed to xxx without A.

    • Same. I had to add the address manually and it worked.

      • I did this as well

  • if the cashback works then for the 100Mbps plan it is about $36 per month for 6 months. Pretty good price

  • just 4 months ago and the price went up $4. Damm inflation

  • +1

I'm on Superloop 100/40 $75 for the first 6 months. Where is the deal here?

    • +1

The $150 of flybuys points that you can use to pay your groceries. So it works out to three months for $79.

      • +1

        Stack with topcashback $108

        • +1

A lot of people saying tcb isn't paying or tracking.

    • +1

They're increasing that plan to $95/month. That's what they told me anyway.

  • So $74 pm for the 780/40 plan. Might be worth a look. Is Optus internet reliable?

  • +2

Omg singed up yesterday, got a phone call later the rep tried to upsell their mobile service after adding their name to the contract, I politely declined. Got wrong billing address on the contract and called back just now. “Sorry but your order is incorrect, we can’t do byo modem with a new nbn service. Your service will not be activated. We have to redo this now.” I said it’s new Optus, not new nbn, and I have got an email today said the service is ready to be activated. All of that clearly went over his head. Asked to cancel the order, rep offered the mobile service again lol It feels sad and desperate. What’s going on with Optus? I mean, I expected the normal incompetence, but this is new.

Gonna try do it with a different email address in a couple days and see if it comes back the same, after I received proper cancellation confirmation🤞

    • I can almost guarantee the agent was lying to you. They either work on commission or have sales targets to hit. Not everyone, but some agents will try anything to make sure the sale goes to them and make up some excuses on the spot…. "Oh this one was set up incorrectly, we need to redo the application".

like wtf? why do you have to redo the whole process instead of updating the existing one?

BEWARE IF THEY TRY TO PULL THIS TRICK ON YOU, AS IT MOST LIKELY WILL NOT BE TRACKED FOR CASHBACK!

How do I know this? I don't with 100% certainty but I have worked in a call centre in my younger days and this happens ALL THE TIME. I've literally caught people stealing my sales after I've gone back to check the customer's account, and saw a new policy was purchased, set up by another agent, with my sale sitting in their account still in "quoted" status.

      • I got a call saying my credit check failed because they couldn't use the driver's license I entered as it was associated with another account (which it is), and the passport they already had on file for the current account came back invalid (because I've renewed it). So they needed my new passport details to redo the credit check. The guy that called me about that was meant to call back the next day when I had my passport on hard; naturally he didn't. I called back and the person that answered seemed good and reconfirmed a couple of things like the installation address, the flybuys offer, and the fact I am replacing an existing service, but then he said my router would arrive next week and the service will be activated on the 24th. I said I had already inputted that I had my own router, and asked for the service to be activated sooner. It's hard to tell if he restarted the application or not, but either way, TopCashback hasn't tracked yet. Time will tell.

      • +1

Thanks for the confirmation, that’s precisely the suspicion I had, which was why I asked him to cancel the whole thing lol I followed up that convo with an email to Optus saying just to confirm this is what your agent told me etc. Haven’t heard back, but an automated email hit me yesterday reminding me to activate my service 🤔

Am I supposed to ask for the supervisor for this kind of scenarios? It’s been 10/10 for supervisor request my last few calls to whichever service providers, I’m a bit fatigued at this stage.

TCB has not tracked either way.

        • +1

Yeah if you suspect something doesn't make sense or you keep going round in circles, just ask to speak to a supervisor.

Look, I'm not familiar with the Optus system or telco in general so what he was saying might be true. I just find it ridiculous that
          1. You can't set up a new BYO modem NBN connection, when their website gives you this option at checkout.
          2. Even if that was true, just change the existing application and add a modem. Why do I have to cancel this one and redo a new one?
You telling me Optus system is so crap, once an application is submitted it can't be amended? Either that or the agent is incompetent or trying something sneaky to make a sale.
You can ask the supervisor to explain. If they have a legitimate reason they'll tell you.

This is only suspicion of course, and we shouldn't accuse them without concrete proof. I'm just trying to warn others that from experience this is definitely a possibility.

          • +1

@smallstakes54: Thanks 🙏 I look forward to live in a world where people compete with each other fairly. Oh right, that’s why I play video games! Until they introduced p2w 🫠

    • Just signed up again this morning. Got a call back, line is activated and good to go. While I was on the phone, I found out they have added a modem to the contract despite me picking byo on the order. Asked about it, they offered to redo the contract, so it’s literally the same story. Cancelled straightaway, but was told the modem has already been shipped. Asked for a supervisor, of course none unavailable, requested a callback. I think it’s ACCC-worthy, will decide what I want to do if I do eventually get to talk to someone higher up.

Signed up today via TopCashback, (then on the Optus site search for flybuys).
Then called Superloop to cancel, given cancelation date of 13-Jul.
Then called Optus (1300 929 949), they had to put me though to another department and they changed the start date to 13-Jul. Optus customer service was great, answered the phone quickly and were very nice.
In total the above took 45mins, the slowest part was the superloop wait time.
If TopCashback works then 3 months internet will cost -$21 (they pay me), otherwise it will cost a total of $87 (or $29 a month).
I also am unhappy with my details being released as part of the Optus hack, but this saving is worth returning for 3 months. Fingers crossed the service works ok.

    Thanks OP

    • I’ve been put through to other department. Taking forever. Over half hour on call so far

    • I signed up via TopCashback a couple of days ago on the 12th but haven't heard anything from them yet, followed the same steps as everyone else. Not sure how long it takes to show up, does anyone know?
Also phoned Superloop today (14th) to cancel, they gave the 30 day spiel but I said I heard they can cancel it from the next billing date (my next is 24th June) and the person said that's fine so set the cancellation for then.

    • Have checked TnCs. I’m in the same boat as you with a later start date of 7th July. Offer ends 30 Jun hope they still award us flybuys points.

Minimum cancellation notice is not clear as well. Is it 30 days or just notify anytime within current billing period.

Hope these are doubts are answered by someone then I can place an order. :)

    • I don't even know how it tracks for TCB given the payment is much later after sign up

  • +1

Apparently NBN FTTP with a BYO router cannot be activated remotely without an NBN technician by law? How come when I changed providers from MoreNBN to Aussie Broadband it was done remotely (only needed to restart the router)?

I signed up but they won't activate it until 19 June 2024 and the website says:

YOU SHOULD USE THE OPTUS MODEM WE SEND YOU WHEN CONNECTING TO YOUR NEW NBN™ SERVICE FOR THE FIRST TIME.
This is because we’re required by law to confirm your nbn service is working and we may not be able to confirm this if you do not use the Optus modem. You can connect with another modem after this if you want to.

If you have any issues with your nbn service, call or chat with us so we can fix them.

    • Update: just cancelled. Similar to wongus below, they wanted to cancel the order and make a new one which would invalidate cashback and the flybuys deal.

    • I'm on NBN FTTP, I got the same message and my internet was down for good half day, and I had to call them up and they fixed it after putting me on hold for ~20min. They never sent me a modem and on FTTP you don't need a modem anyways.

      • When speaking to them on the phone they said they could only activate it is if they cancelled my order and setup a new order. Hence the cancellation as it would have invalidate cashback and the flybuys deal. To avoid the headache I am going to join a different provider.

        • So they did that to me however they claim to have enter in my flybuys membership number and was able to quote it over the phone. If they did that it wouldn't invalidate the flybuys right?
