    8 pack 4W GU10 was $63.60,

    That not really true

You are comparing the price of 8 x individual globes at $7.95 each.

How much is your 8 pack normally and how much is the saving really ???

What brightness are these equivalent to in terms of halogen downlights? ie: are they around the same as a 50W halogen globe?

    • The 5w "pure white" ones I got from the other deal are brighter, but less diffuse (more spotlighty), that my previous 50w halogens (can't remember what diffusion angle the halogen were supposed to be). I'd expect 4w to be about the same.

worth noting that these have a slightly longer white base bit than GU10 halogens, and so will stick out a bit further. I discovered this after buying some from their last deal. Not a huge issue for my light fittings, but if you have something that sits flush with a halogen, it'll jut out a bit with these.

  • Anyone care to comment on the price/value?

I want some but don't actually know if this is good value or not.

    • Kogan sell 4 packs for $29 plus shipping, in warm white 4w GU10 or MR16. Their pictures look the same, but I can't comment on quality as I haven't seen the actual Kogan ones. So these are a fair bit cheaper.

  • I picked up 10 x 12volt 9w warm LEDs off eBay for around $20

    • can you post the link please?

    • Link, or it didn't happen! :)

    • Yeah right, thats got to be a typo. There are no listings on ebay for 10 of these for $20.

    • That's possible. But that is a MR16 globe, not GU10.

GU10s are more expensive for some reason.

  • Have found if you are after the brightness of Halogens you wont get it from LED's. As a general light source they are fine but not so good for reading.

Have you looked at the (pricy) BrightGreen DR700?

If you are prepared to pay they can be as bright or better. There are many long threads on Whirlpool about this. Personally I recommend the Osram Parathom GU10s. $25 at Bunnings, which is hardly OzBargain territory, but the light is strong, and not too yellow, and actually brighter than the IKEA halogens that preceded them.

To compare the light output check the Lamp power output (Lumens). These put out 252Lm.

To view the output of halogens have a look at http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/40/s…

It seems that these put out slightly more light than a typical 20W halogen. However if replacing a warm light (halogen) with a cooler light source, theoretically you will need less light (Lumens) to have the same visibility.

  • What do you guys think about the deal going on in Kogan for LED Downlights. I know the price is not the best. But are they good quality lights? When I checked the beam angle it has mentioned that they are 30 degrees. Is it actually 60 degrees to both sides or just 30 degree projection in total. In second case they would look like spot lights.
