Plastic towels so, yes.
So better on one hand (no virgin plastics), less energy and water intensive production than cotton. But worse on other hand.
Also, still like $50 for a towel.
Bamboo towels probably better option sustainability wise (I don't know…).

I have had maybe 5 beach towels in my Lifetime 50+ years, they get used often, sand/salt/chloribe etc.
