Just wondering if anyone had recommendation for car seat installers in Sydney?

We were planning to go to Baby Bunting but that had mixed reviewed.

just out of interest what kind of bad experiences were reported?

Seriously baby car seat installation is super straight forward…even more so if you are using isofix (though I know many parents who dont 'trust' isofix).

    • what kind of bad experiences were reported?

"Seat flew out the windscreen upon hitting brakes"

What exactly is this reasoning for not trusting isofix. Do they trust seatbelts? What's the difference?

Never heard of that one before

      • one reason someone said to me was they didnt trust how isofix connector can slip if the seat is wiggled around (Say getting out a 15kg tantruming 3 year old)

my reply was …mate it takes…2 seconds if that to visually inspect and tighten the belts if required so the indicators turn green…how hard is that really.

      Agree 100%

      Super easy

So easy that anyone can do it themselves.

      1. Locate the anchor points
      2. Screw in the anchor bolts
      3. Tighten straps

You will probably need to remove and reinstall the car seat at some stage in the near future so may as well know how to do it yourself….
Especially if you have 2 cars!!!!

      I always did ours myself

  • We've used NRMA and Capsule King to do a rear facing install. Very happy with both.

It's incredibly simple to install modern car seats with ISOFIX. Follow the instructions, double check your work and you will be fine.

Edit: Also, what will you do when/if you need to take the car seat out and reinstall? This question always fascinates me with people who are paying "professionals" to install car seats.

    • Also what will you do when someone accidentally releases the wrong seatbelt when they are exiting the car? We've had that happen a couple of times and if you don't know how to install the carseat, you'd be stuck with trying to work it out.

It's really not difficult and I would recommend watching a YouTube video on your particular car seat on how to install so you're aware of how to install it yourself.

Buy one of these to help with the install to lock the seatbelt to the lap: https://www.bigw.com.au/product/infasecure-safegrip-belt-cla…

  • check if your local council has free seat fittings. https://www.kidsafevic.com.au/road-safety/free-child-car-res… was offered in Victoria

Honestly, just ask someone who already has kids what is involved. It is super easy and anyone can do it with very little effort.

It's a 5 min simple job, anyone able bodied can fit them.

you definitely need to learn how to do it yourself.
Fine to pay someone the first time if it will make you feel better (first kid, panic you wont do it right, etc etc), but fitting a car seat is about the easiest job you're gonna have in the next 18+ years

  • Thanks. We do have isofix compatibility in my car.

  • Best is DIY. its not hard, just need a bit of commonsense.

Look for general car seat installation in YouTube, then go one with the specific car seat model you have if any.

depends on what car seat your looking to install.

if you need anchors installed then yeah , its worth it, other wise like everyone else has said, if you need to pull it out your screwed.

in my experience these things were a god send Lockie , i had very little patience for those other clips, but this was so simple to use and effective.

I've seen many posts of car seat installs from professionals/baby bunting etc that are wrongly installed. If you join the Child restraints facebook group it's very informative.

Also isofix is super easy. Seatbelt is also quite easy just requires energy. I installed my first seat when I was 38 weeks pregnant, use a bulldog clip to stop the seatbelt from whooshing back in before you're done. And oddly enough the more expensive cars don't have the seatbelt lock, so you will need a (gated) clip. Check by pulling your seatbelt all the way out and if it clicks while feeding it back in, you won't need it.

Wtf? I've fitted all the seats for my kids over the years. It's super easy to do it correctly. Abit confusing at 1st, but give you self sufficient time and you'll get it. With isofix it rakes 30 secs. Without maybe 5 Min.

  • We rented a capsule from a small shop selling baby stuff for our first child. I watched him install it and did it myself after that.

Afaik in NSW there's no legislation saying baby seats must be professionally installed. It's just pushed by the baby shops.

Professional car seat installation! What a joke, trading on parents fears. Seriously in the life of your kids you'll have that seat in and out to make way for grannies, swapping cars, upgrading seats a thousand times. Better get used to doing it yourself!!

  • Most car seats are fairly straightforward to install but if you have to ask you maybe need to get someone to do it for you.

  • Glad you asked, watch a few youtube videos (ideally from the manufacturer) and install it yourself. I won't even trust a shop to do it properly.

Apparently Australia is so unique that we can't accept proper isofix from europe and still uses the stupid backwards top tether - which is not safe or backed by science.

Amount of loosely installed seats I have seen is mind boggling, install it yourself and check it periodically to make sure it is tight.
