Agoda Cancelling Booking for No Reason?

Question as I don't travel much usually.

My booking through Agoda (AgodaHomes) got cancelled 3 weeks before travel date, 9 days after booking confirmation. No reason was given, and no alternatives given. It was not because of anything to do with us (have had no interaction with the property except the usual automatic bot confirmation messages).

It is obviously very disruptive to the family's travel plans, and alternatives will now incur significantly more costs. Not getting any response by the 'messages' option, and can't seem to find a good way to contact Agoda. Is there any recourse? or just bear it and treat it as a confusingly terrible service and move on?

“Agoda homes”, is this like Airbnb? If so, it’s very likely the property owner cancelled the booking because they know they can get more money now from a new booking. This is happening over all these kinds of platforms, and there’s generally nothing they do for the visitor.

Agoda is just a reseller/booking agent. Most likely the place you had been overbooked, had a better offer etc, so it was cancelled.

No reason was given, and no alternatives given.

Does it really matter the reason? They have cancelled your booking as they don't have a place for you.

    Is there any recourse?

    What do the T&Cs say?

Nothing you can do - find new accommodation and move on. :/

    • ^^ exactly.

Pick ya fights in life.. is it worth the hassle with 1% chance of a good result?
Isnt your time is probably more valuable than going thru everything and having nowhere to stay…

Next time use Trivago and pay their premium.

  • Its sad this has happened, but I've heard of people who don't find out until the day of arrival, and are just told "sort it out with booking company, not our problem" by the hotel staff.
At least your told 3 weeks ahead of time. I heard this happen enough times I feel its probably covered all over by their TOS. Sucks I know.

Stop patronizing ABNB, Bookings, and Agoda for homestay or non-hotel-based accommodation. This has become very common as they cancel bookings without reason and just refund our money after a couple of weeks.

You fail to understand the anxiety of rebooking accommodation again and going through a search and in that, you have missed the window for early booking and finally, you pay a premium to book at short notice.

I had experienced this with Booking.com and that was the last booking I had made with them; I went with a reputed hotel chain directly to their websites and found that many hotels allow you for early check-in or free breakfast if you book with them directly and that too no cancellation once it has been booked.

    • You are not alone with all you said.

    • Problem is ABNB/AgodaHomes/StayZ/etc are catering for those segment who wants to rent a house for say 8 pax whereas hotels can't do that. I am nervous as well if this is becoming a trend.

Yes, this has become trend, best is now they charge you $$$ for cleaning on a daily basis as extra which is added to your account at the checkout and that cleaning charge is added daily and in actual, they only send their cleaner after you check out.

When you do check out you get a list of things you need to do, such are removing all linen and donna covers and placing in on the floor duly folded, cleaning the bathroom and toilet before you leave, clean utensils and stove top and switching off lights etc. and they give the hint where the vacuum and mops are kept so that you clean the house before you leave.

Also, they hold bond money to justify any deduction in case you fail to take their instructions.

    Is there any recourse?

    No

  • It is a pain and they probably cancelled before they have to pay you any compensation. I’d urgently start looking for new accommodation.

  • Thanks everyone for sharing. I'll just pass it as an awkwardly annoying experience in life.
