Cleaning Kitchen Stone Benchtops - What do you use?

Hello OzBargainers.

For those who have stone benchtops in their kitchen, what product do you use to clean it? …and I don't mean for some special deep-clean, just everyday post-cooking type of clean-up.

Most guides I read online warned to not use regular cleaning sprays (like say Spray-n-Wipe) as this damages the bench. For a little while Woolies sold a specific spray for stone, but then it was discontinued.

Otherwise, I've been reading to just use some mild soap and water, which seems to work ok. But every now and then that will be insufficient for a stain, and I have to pull out the Gumption. Which works, but I know should not be used much at all.

The best advice I've seen is from Stone Guys who say: Warning, do NOT use Google as your solution

    • +1 for water and a CLEAN microfibre cloth to clean the bench.

Best to use warm water and a microfibre cloth. However you may need to up the ante for spilled wine or coffee - windex and paper towel. Next level is jif.

However each escalation wears away the slick surface so use spare ingly.

    • If you're talking engineered stone, Windex and Jif are definite no-nos

    • JIF contains micro abrasives - YMMV UAYOR

  • Water. Detergent if it's been greasy.

    Sealer Ive used is Akemi
