Induction Freestanding Oven

Hello all, I'm looking for help choosing an induction freestanding oven.

I'm after a 900mm freestanding oven with an induction cooktop.

I was originally looking at Westinghouse but have since come across brands such as Falcon, Smeg, Belling, Electrolux etc.

I have a budget up to $8-$10k. Obviously I'd prefer not to spend the max, but I want something that functions well and looks good.

I regularly cook for lots of people, so it needs to perform.

Thanks.

We have the F&P one, coming up to 3 years now. No major complaints or issues. Induction top gets scratched up, especially our centre hob, but I imagine this is from the usual wear and tear. $1000+ for the sparky to install a new circuit, lay heavy duty wiring and to do the work. Very easy to clean, no VOC particulates in the air (from burning of gas). Can be a good idea if not planning to move/sell anytime soon and you have solar! We have a Rambo wok burner that we use outside the house on the very rare occasion that we need to use gas.

    • I've had the same one for about 18 months now, working well.

      complaints:
the induction zone is too small, when you boil water in a frying pan it forms a ring of bubbles that directly correlates to the induction coils. In my opinion it is too small.

      best feature:
dedicated knobs on the front side for induction cooking control. The worst thing for any electric cooker is those useless capacitive buttons, this does not have those.

      • Hmm, can't say I've noticed this on ours; have you tried turning the dial all the way clockwise past "9" and holding it there for a few seconds to enable "P" (powerful?) mode? I wonder if that changes anything with the ring of bubbles?

We like the physical knobs too. Is your centre hob still in good condition? Our centre one looks markedly worn compared to the four smaller ones.

  • My tip: choose one with a pyro oven

  • Anything specific put you off westinghouse or just that you found more? I've been eying this off for when I finally get rid of gas, seems the best mix of known brand, features and price - https://www.binglee.com.au/products/90cm-electric-freestandiā€¦

  • My freestanding induction oven has had issues. The cooktop board had to be replaced under warranty after 4 years and now needs another replacement (8 years), but it's not worth it. The oven man said that the heat from the oven below fries the circuits above, leading to premature failure. He recommended not to buy stand alone units with no gap between the oven and cooktop. I would not buy again. Now waiting for the oven to completely die to buy a new one, as it is as expensive.

I can use the cook top and oven separately, but if combining them, there is a 30% chance that the cooktop will cut out.
