I'm a touch concerned when I received an email from Zyron Tech a few days ago with an obscure message regarding potential "unusual knocking sounds" from the Powerpod 140 charger!

    WTF does this even mean?

We hope this message finds you well. We are reaching out to provide some important information regarding your Powerpod 140 charger.

    1. If you notice any unusual knocking sounds coming from your charger, please do not hesitate to contact us immediately. This could indicate a potential issue that we need to address to ensure the device operates safely and effectively.

    2. We would like to remind you that the Powerpod 140 charger is a precision device. You would have noticed it is quite compact, heavy and built with micro components inside, thus it should be handled with care. Dropping the charger could cause permanent damage, rendering it inoperable. In case if you drop the charger kindly ensure an adult test it with caution.

Your satisfaction and safety are our top priorities. Should you have any concerns or require further assistance, please feel free to reach out to our customer support team at [email protected].

Thank you for choosing our product. We appreciate your attention to these important details.

    Best regards,
    Team Zyron<<

    • Hah, i just checked inbox. I got nothing. It might be a problem with a particular batch having loose parts i assume.

      • +6

Got the same email, it doesn't really inspire confidence that they are telling us to keep an eye out for faulty units as opposed to recalling the batch.

        • Got the same too, does seem concerning and seems to me to be a pre-emptive warning as to reduce liability?Maybe I'm thinking too much.

    • Yeah I got that email too, I had put in a query as to when this would become available and the above email was as if I had bought the old occasionally dodgy one.

Anyway, now we know, September and I wanted a travel charger this month.

    • I received the same email.. maybe @ibelievesyd can provide more information.

    • +1

To clarify, there is nothing for you to be concerned about the email.

      1) A ticking or knocking sound is not a usual phenomenon. It hasn't caused any failures yet that has been reported but as a precautionary measure we have notified customers to return the unit if they notice any unusual ticking or knocking sound.
      2) Dropping an electronic device can potentially damage any device. Specially these chargers that are so compact, yet heavy. We did have one reported incident and the QC report mentioned that it was due to internal components damage due to drop/mishandling of the charger. That's the reason we notified consumers that if you have dropped the charger then it may get damaged permanently and you shall test it with caution.

Point 1 is not of concern at all and just a proactive information so that the customers know when they need to contact us and return the charger. If Point 2 doesn't apply to you, then you can use the charger without concern.

The above clarification is how you should have originally communicated to your customers.

If you plug in new devices, will it temporarily cut off power to other ports that are currently being used? In other chargers I've had, it will cut off power as it redistributed the power as devices are added or removed which is really annoying so hoping to avoid that

    • +2

It depends on how much power is needed. I have the ugreen 100w, if I plug a watch and phone, it doesn't renegotiate power but when I add the third device it does.

    • +1

This renegotiation is inevitable specially when the power outputs of the charger changes or the power input of the connected device must change. For example, our Powaforce 68W GaN 5 charger with Navitas GanFast with GanSense chipset doesn't renegotiate power when I connect 2 18W each power banks or a 45W PPS S23+ and an 18W power bank. But if I connect a 60W laptop initially and then connect an 18W power bank then it will surely renegotiate to drop laptop from 60W to 45W and charge power bank at 18W

Isn't powerpod 140w supposed to be made by Zyron's new supplier? How can it have problems already?

  • +5

I've purchased 4 Zyron products including 2 x powerbanks and 2 x batteries. All 4 have died or have problems. Support is good and will try replace. I love their products while they are working….

    • +1

Yeah, I'm not buying Zyron again. Issues all round for me too

  • I would suggest you wait for it not to be pre-order to get the item faster and cheaper.

Zyron have previously delayed the shipment of their pre-orders by months. When they did ship, they had a sale immediately afterwards that was at a bigger discount than the pre-order. So basically loyal customers who waited got stiffed. Oh and those same models are also capable of "unusual knocking sounds" that may blow up. Quality control there.

    • Apologies for that but we had no other option but to reduce prices as other CN brands started to drop prices drastically.

We haven't officially sent out emails of pre-order yet as there are a few terms that we are finalizing, specially about Price guarantee for the customers placing Pre-orders. We will 100% support our loyal customers more this time and provide a 12 Months Price match guarantee. There will be further free inclusions specially for the ones who pre-ordered last year. The upcoming model will have no such issues as it comes from the same factory that manufactures for Belkin and Satechi. Gradually by end of the year we will only have chargers from this factory.

      • @ibelievesyd any update on:

  • I wish they had 2x 12w ports. I have so many little things that don't charge on PD ports.

    • You can go for Powaforce 100W GaN 5 that has 2x 12W ports.

      • Hi there!
Do you know if this charger would support Lenovo's custom 135w PD for their Legion laptops? They sadly don't sell their proprietary charger in Australia and I've been keen to get something that would easily work out of the box with it.

        • +1

Unfortunately not. These proprietary specs require different amperage & voltage than the standard available in aftermarket chargers

          • @ibelievesyd: Ahh shame. Thanks for the update anyway! Wish Lenovo weren't so anti-consumer.
