Air Compressor to Replace Canned Air?

I've got some electronics and things to clean around the house (old heaters) and thinking that compressed air is the best way to flush it out. But sick of buying canned air. Has anyone had experience buying a ryobi or ozito air compressor and adding an attachment to replace a canned air addiction? What attachments would I need?

I see engine cleaner air guns but are these too strong?

Any advice to replace just buying canned air all the time is appreciated!

Almost any compressor would do the trick for that.

Keep in mind though that some compressors will output air that's moist or has oil - so depending on what you're cleaning you may need filters/dryers plumbed in to scrub the air first. Easily done, but adds to cost. Also consider the weight and noise of a compressor. Not a problem if you can take your items out to the shed, but lugging a compressor inside is a chore so may need a long air hose

The little battery powered air guns are reasonably decent for getting dust off electronics and the like. Not as good at broad areas, but obviously very easy to move around etc

    • Thanks for the advice, especially the oil/water wouldn't have given it much thought

Buy a air blower from Temu/Aliexpress. Some have excellent strength. I originally bought one for the same purpose as you, then bought another 4 for rooms all over the house. I use one in the workshop, one for the computer, one besides the kitty litter (majority of them vacuum as well) and one outside for the greenhouse. Dirt cheap, rechargeable, highly recommended.

  • All you need is one of the cheap air duster attachments. Just make sure the compressor you but has a regulator and water trap. Almost all of them have a cheap combo unit which will do so just avoid the few that don't. Make sure you pick up some ear plugs or muffs as well. A blast of compressed air hitting things can be loud.

    • Good idea on the earplugs

I use this and its good, u can diy rig up the nozzle

    • Thanks for the idea. Basically the same cost as one can of air from bunnings anyway 🙃

  • Datavac is the (expensive) but IMHO best option.

Bought mine (ED-500ESD) many years ago and has been faultless and I expect it to remain that way for years/decades.

  • I’ve always just used a cheap direct motor air compressor with an air blow gun attachment, used this for heaters, vacuums, tools etc. The only concern I’d have is that it may be too powerful for some electronic doohickeys, however the alternative might be one of those portable air mattress blowers from K-Mart that is rechargeable, which comes with a little nozzle. It wouldn’t have the same oomph as an air compressor but that might be just what you want.
