Some bad reviews, doesn't have strong magnets among other issues it seems. Seeing videos in the review showing this put me off. Can anyone recommend something?

Looks pretty much the same as the one I printed out on my 3d printer for much cheaper ages ago (I had to buy the arms and clamps separately).

So what was left that you had to print?

Just the base I think (was many years ago). Looks something like this- https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2576668

        • Cool. its just this one is magnetic, you can move arms around

too expensive but it would be good for me, limited dexterity and grasping capabilities in R hand due to accident so would be good for tying hooks, lures and flies for fishing

Why dont just buy from Bunnings? They have it for abt the same price. Seen it at a few stores.

  • I have a really really big soldering task ahead of me (25 PCB assembly), are all helping hands this expensive? I might just try to jerry rig two carpentry clamps together to hold the PCB if I have to drop $70.

    • You might also consider hot air station and solder paste. I tried it recently for the first time and it works like magic. This one and this paste.

      • It's mainly through hole work with header pins, won't really work for my purpose

    • I made one using the same CNC water jet tube as this with alligator clamps and a large piece of hardwood board from Bunnings. Just drilled holes and stuck the hoses in and glued them. So the base is heavy and about 40cm square.

  • Any cheaper alternatives with same style ?

    • Have a look on aliexpress:

Cheaper if the arms aren't magnetic, and even cheaper if it's clamp-to-the-desk style rather than having a base.

      • I tried non-Weller arms, they are not staying in position, too flexible, I returned it. Weller ones stay as you put them, they are visibly thicker and stiffer.
