Jetstar - Booking via expedia was cheaper than on the jetstar website

Probably everyone on here knows this and checks it everytime. I didn't so I reckon I'll share.

I was boking a couple of flights from Bangkok to Singapore and checked out Adioso. Airasia was about $20 cheaper than Jetstar on Adioso. Skyscanner showed Jetstar as being about $25 cheaper than airasia. I clicked through to the listed provider - expedia.com.au. I tried to book but it kept telling me the price had changed and I'd have to click that I accepted the new price. The price did change a couple of times and always to the more expensive side. It was going to be about $30 more overall. I liked the departure time on jetstar better so was willing to pay a little less than I would have with my preferred carrier - airasia. I just couldn't get it to go through however.

So I went to starthere and clicked through to expedia. I ended up being able to buy the Jetstar tix on the expedia website at the original lowest cost. Even though expedia slugged me with a $16 cc fee, I am still about $50 - 60 ahead with a preferred time. Thanks to the fact that I am staying at the Bangkok King Power Pullman on the club level, I am able to access the King Power lounge at BKK. I think it will be crap, but probably better than hanging around the regular departure hall.

So my lower price on Jetstar was accessed via expedia independent of skyscanner. I was able to access that price through starthere and presumably from just entering the url.

I hope adioso can come up with a way to show these lower fares available on expedia.

That $50 or so savings is on a total paid of $239, so a great percentage savings.

One downside is I do not think I would have been able to pay for checked luggage on the expedia site. I didn't see it. If you need checked luggage, jetstar will charge you more if you add it on later.

  • Be very careful with Expedia. I used them for a motel booking for 3 people, Adults, one child. Said on booking for 3 and it was supposed to be a family room according to their site, but confirmation email was for 2 with additional price for the child of $15 making it more expensive than Wotif. So I cancelled- what a load of trouble. In the end, I contacted the motel directly to make sure it was cancelled and they told me that Expedia had only booked a twin room with an additional person. So I hope you get what you've paid for. I did see a recent episode of the airways show where someone had trouble with their booking through a third party and the Airline said, "Not our fault. You'll have to take it up with them."

    • In this instance, I think I should be okay as jetstar has independently sent me my e tickets and itinerary.

  • +1

If you need checked luggage, jetstar will charge you more if you add it on later.

Not entirely true. If you arrive at the airpot without having booked luggage, then yes, you will be charged more. I flew Jetstar (regrettably) recently and was able to book luggage online only hours before flying, at the same price I'd have paid at the time of booking.

    • Geewhizz is right. As long as you add the check-in baggage online (and not at the airport counter), you pay the same price irrespective of whether you added it while you booked your tickets or later.

  • Another website to try can be the IRISH site of Expedia. Perhaps because of the Euro, that site sometimes comes up with some better results.

    • I did try that, thanks. It gave me the same price, but is EUROS, so quite a bit higher in this instance.
