[Solved] Motorola G84 and ALDI Mobile - Unable to Receive Calls

See TLDR; at the end of the post

So, I got OZB's favorite Motorola G84 a few months back. I am using an Aldi mobile SIM. Since the last few days, this phone is unable to receive any calls. It can make calls and send and receive SMS as usual, just not receive calls. When a caller calls this number, they hear a ring and immediately forwarded to voice call. The phone never rings and just receives an SMS saying "You have missed a call from XXXXX". I can immediately call-back to that number and it works so it rules out any network coverage issues. This only started happening since a few days.

I called Aldi mobile support. The support person first tried to blame it on network coverage issues. Then he asked me to switch to 3G network. Changing network settings is not possible when a call is in progress. So I had to disconnect the call, only to be reminded that G84 does not support 3G.

I think if I call the support again, they will blame it on absence of 3G support, so reaching out to OZB community if someone has encountered this issue or has any helpful tips.

TLDR; Aldi Mobile SIM in Motorola G84 handset. Cannot receive calls since the last few days but can make calls and send and receive SMS as usual. Support seems to be clueless

UPDATE: It looks like somehow call forwarding was setup accidentally. After reseting the call diversions, the calls are coming through.

Have you "reset network settings"? Or a "reset all"?

This sounds silly but have you accidentally enabled a DND feature or something similar? I’d have a flick through the phone settings.

    • Definately not DND. SMS notification pops up with a sound.

Have you turned your phone off and on? When my Motorola couldn't make calls, that was the solution.

    • Yeah, tried that. Even left phone switch off over night but no success.

    What do you mean?

I mean, they might say that due to some technical reasons, your phone model needs to support 3G until Aug 31st and since G84 does not have 3G support, thats why I am facing this issue.

if you turn it off and then on again then can you receive any calls? or at least a call?

    • Yeap, tried from airplane mode to leaving phone switched off over night still no success.

They won't be able to blame this for much longer even with the delayed shutdown of Telstra 3G network.

  • Go into Wollies or Coles and get a $2 sim and try it.

    • Ah, thank you very much.. It looks like somehow call forwarding was setup accidentally. After reseting the call diversions, the calls are coming through.

Great, I'm sure I have fixed that for my parents before.

  • Where did you get the g84 from?

  • telstra /boost often have APN settings problem too, on random devices at random times (you may wanna check your APN settings too LoL).

you should have it using IPv4/IPv6 (aka both) and apn to be telstra.wap, etc. etc.

I had the problem in Moto G54, and various other less popular android devices too on this, bloody APN was set to IPv6 only and I couldn't reach my home (because it only had IPv4 that time)

  • Had a similar problem a couple of years back with my LG (it was a network problem) I turned off volte and the phone worked until they were able to sort out their issues.
