Samsung Galaxy S3 & Kogan's warranty?

It was perfectly fine one minute, I put it down and the next it won't power on.

I've tried taking battery out and putting it in, plugging in the charger, connecting via USB, shouting at it, hard reset and tapping on the phone lightly. Also tried different chargers.

It shows no signs of life, no LED lights up, completely dead. I haven't installed any custom updates on the phone, I'm just the average user.

I've only had the phone for 2 months, got it from Kogan and I've emailed them as well. Any ideas or did I just get a dud? This is grounds for warranty right? Anybody have experience with Kogan's warranty?

  • My friend had a slight problem with his phone from Kogan. He returned the phone to them (dont think they did anything to it) but they checked it out and sent it back saying no fault showed up.
    Your phone does not work … send it back and they will send you a replacement. Let us know how you get on.

    • I don't care if they say nothing happened and sneakily replace my phone with a new one. I just want it fixed… sucks I paid $540 for a new phone and it dies a few months later.

  • How loud did you shout?

    I'd try someone elses battery, and if that doesn't work then return.

    Also try charging overnight.

    • Not yet, they take forever to reply to emails. They asked me today if I wanted to send it back. I said yes, now to wait another 2 days for instructions.

  • I would also make 100% sure to search how to check the wet indicator and make sure you take a pic of it

    • Just checked my moisture indicator, it's purple. Is that normal? I checked online and it says water damage will indicate red/pinkish. Not sure if purple falls into that category.

      • If that's the case your phone has come into contact with moisture.

        ie no warranty

        • Well that's awks since it's never been exposed to water. Although, when my phone first died, I took the battery out and blew into the connectors? Is the moisture from my breath enough to trigger the indicator?

        • Also, I should note that the crosses/hatches are purple on a white background. there isn't any bleeding/blotchiness.

          I'm not sure how much moisture is required to set them off, I'd guess not too much.

  • Sent them the phone a few days ago and received an email saying they received my phone. Now it's just a waiting game.

    Just got this email from them

    "Your phone has been assessed, and confirmed to be faulty.

    We will be dispatching a like for like replacement shortly, and you will receive an email with the tracking number when this occurs."

    Will let OzBargain know when the phone arrives.

    Thanks for the update. Feedback like this is useful for those of us deciding between the phone vendors.

    All too often you come across someone posting about an experience and either don't name the vendor and/or don't update with what happens zzz.

    • Yeah I also worried about dealing with Kogan's warranty because I couldn't find anyone's experiences with it online but happy to say Kogan's customer service made everything super easy for me to deal with and only took a week for them to sort everything out.
