Is it a massive uplift v VS Code + plugins for a non-enterprise user?
If becoming an enterprise user one day is something you're planning to do, then it's a good way to familiarise yourself with Pycharm.
Problem with the VSCode + PlugIns vs Pycharm experience is you're at the mercy of the PlugIn Authors (albeit there's plenty of good authors out there).
Also, VSCode written in Electron, and Microsoft had to fork Electron to make it performant.
They are planning to rewrite VSCode using edgewebview2 that would make it more performant and less memory hungry, but I have no idea of their timelines.
The other thing about learning how to use Pycharm is that, you'll be able to use their other IDEs for other languages easily
any JetBrains product is massive bloatware which will make your computer very slow.
Not true. Been using it for over 5 years. Install what you need
PyCharm on my MacBook is currently using 1.5GB of memory, with 3 (big) projects open. Unless you have a prehistoric computer you will be fine.
