Cheapest-but-Not-Trash Plug and Play 2.1 Speaker?

heyo!

My wife finds my Edifier R1280DBs pretty decent but we'd like to not spend more than $100 for a pair of speakers, made me think of 2.1 speakers that I know nothing about anymore but should be pretty affordable right?

Does anyone know of the usual recommendations for 2.1 speakers nowadays?

2.1? So you want two speakers and one sub?

Looks like it's the cheapest by $50-$100

    Can't comment on quality.

if you want cheapest it's this https://www.umart.com.au/product/creative-pebble-plus-2-1-us…

but honestly both the logitech and creative are so small they are not going to sound like a 2.1. I have heard a 2.1 and it reminds you of the cinema and has that kind of cinematic feel to the sound.
I have the Creative and even after heavy EQ they just sound ok, kinda like small bookshelf type speakers.

      • just need something that does better than her current laptop's speakers haha (and the table has very little space for a proper speaker size, so your recc here is pretty darn good!

even beats the amazon price at $55+ rn 👏👏👏

yeah just be aware it’s doesn’t sound like a 2.1 system. I have it 💁‍♀️

I get you now though you are looking for 2.1 because of limited desk space.

well I got the creative for that reason too but be aware the two round speakers were slightly larger than I was expecting I just measured them for you with measuring tape they are about 12x12cm in diameter.

also if you want a bit better bass, find a system wide EQ and lower everything above 60hz.

this way you aren’t pushing the speakers any harder than normal and I found they get more than loud enough for desk use so no problem there either.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Yea thanks! I think we're gonna be okay, surely it'll be heaps better than her laptop speakers 🤣 win win imo, we're not that anal on quality, thanks again!

@confidantduk: great they will do the job.
one more thing I forgot to comment above. I recommend plugging the Pebble Plus USB into a USB charger for full power. (a low power one such as 5W will do it).
if you plug it and power it from a laptop's USB port you will get less power. (typical PC USB port will only provide 1W max)
you might think power is all about bass but I noticed a slight improvement in sound quality as well.

Good luck. I find with audio it's best to buy once and don't worry about it. Cheap speakers are generally shit, especially where a sub is involved.

    • Yep this! Buy speakers well and you’ll get decades out of them as speaker tech for sound quality tends to have evolutionary change

For cheap speakers, go secondhand. But also know what you want to use them for primarily (eg music vs movies/games) because you can end up at very different places depending on your priority

  • I think I gots them some Edifiers on my PC, they sound pretty good. You're not going to tell us if she just wants speakers for music or for TV and movies or games or what?

the Edifier S351DB seems to be best bang for buck 2.1 speakers on ozb. don't have them but they have been posted a few times with everyone saying good things.
but don't get the previous S350DB version, it comes with a round remote which according to comments is terrible to use because you can't tell which way it's pointing.
