    Buy it.

Edit. Front and rear are both important.

    • +2

Because front and rear dash cams are important, I prefer the integrated package of A229 (Plus and Pro), instead of two A119 with two memory cards.

    • +2

Super agreed with the rear camera being important, got rear ended by a commodore by two young high vissers, hit and run. then i got rear ended by a lady on her phone at an intersection. the footage is tops!

      • So what is the most valuable reason for having a rear cam? Is it for convincing insurance company that you are not at fault? For suing (I'm totally fine with this)?

        Thanks

        • +2

Yes, when you gst hit from behind and the person buggers off, then they can chase them for your excess payment, otherwise its on you

          • @Headless: My friends been through few different cases even not their fault, if insurance cannot find the at fault driver, at the end they still need to pay excess, so unfair …

            • @kaikor: In one instance a friend noted down the plates of the fleeing at fault driver. Was a nightmare getting the cops share the driver details with insurance.

              • @Prodev3r: Exactly, all depending on the cop you gonna deal with, some prob not give a F about passing details to you, then you screwed.

      • Do you need a cable that goes from the front camera to the back?

        • +1

yes, but it's included in the kit

is this the go to budget option for a dashcam? looking to buy one and pay a mechanic to install it (do I need a rear one?)

    • +1

Had one of these for years, worked great (may have been V2) - eventually died. Thinking of getting the same one, so I can just keep all the wiring in place.

      • thanks for your input, will likely pull the trigger, how hard was the wiring to do? did you do it yourself or did you get a mechanic to do it? what would this job cost (testing my mechanics good faith)

        • You can do it yourself, just takes time.
Follow the instructions, watch a YouTube, you will be fine.
Do buy a fuse connector from Aliexpress, technically don't need it but i advise to get one

        • I did it myself - wasn't too hard, but does depend on the car.

You can often find videos or guides online by people who have done it previously on that car.

    • +2

Cannot beat this in this price range. I had a V2 and upgraded to this V3 two years ago and it's been stellar. Would have no qualms buying another one if needed.

      • ozbargain approved I see. there has been some good reviews on this unit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPBC64QFVrg&ab_channel=Vorte…

how hard was the wiring to do? did you do it yourself or did you get a mechanic to do it? good to see its worth repurchasing, its tough times and I am not eager to spend $1k for a solution

        • Depends on your car and how comfortable you are with taking your cars trim pieces out. I had it plugged into the USB port of my cigarette port for years and had no issues routing the cable through the dash. When I changed to this model, also then decided to hardwire it into the fuse box and hide the wires along the A-pillar of my CX5.

        • You could always try Airtasker to get installed a bit cheaper…

      • +1

Any big differences between V2 & V3 that you can tell?

        • Better sensor is probably about it. Can't remember the specifics but worthy to grab this one

    • Find a proper installer or someone familiar with the car interior and electronics - unless your mechanic is.

  • Never had a dashcam before, but I imagine you don't actually use the LCD screen very often?
Wouldn't it be easier to just use a phone or computer to review/copy any incidents?
Why should I spend more money on one with a screen?

    • +1

Because they don't cost much, all the decent ones have them. you need to be able to check what your camera is recording when you install and adjust the lense.
Its also handy if you want to determine what the real speed of your car is on the speedo, e.g. your speedo reads 110, your actually doing 104.

Can Vouch for Viofo as a brand, One of mine died a year out of warranty, they shipped me a new one for about $30 to replace it.

      • I keep the screen off while driving, to me it's a distraction especially at night, but I love seeing it when starting - it's just that little positive feedback that it's all working properly, and turns off automatically after 30sec or whatever.

        • Yea mine does the same, turns on for 20 seconds when I turn the car on and stays off.

      • Why doesn't the speedo show the real speed, is my car faulty?

        • +1

All modern speedos display higher than actual speed because manufacturers get fined if the Speedo is inaccurate in the other direction.

          • +1

@reu: Yep, if you have Andriod Auto or Carplay having Waze installed should give you a good indicator of your real speed also.

    • Correct, you will rarely look at the screen, its pretty redundant. Also, it's actually the opposite there are no screens on the more expensive units, such as Blackvue, Thinkware, IRoad.

    • I recall hearing it's actually illegal for the display to be on while you are driving as it is a distraction. The display must be off.

  • This is a good price or it's better to wait for front and rear dash cam? Thanks

  • I have a Viofo, great camera but no WiFi. This model doesn't either, so something to keep in mind.

  • i seem to recall it was A129 that was popular, is this older model?

    • Different model. The A129 has both front and rear cameras.

  • does buying 2x of these work as a front/rear or is it better to actually buy a front/rear combo? is rear even that important

    • It is possible - but theres more wiring involved to power both units and also I'd imagine it'll be more fiddly to obtain/sync the front and rear footage for the same moment.

  • +2

I just ordered from Aliexpress a129 duo with hardwiring and antiglare for approx $224. I’ll get it professionally installed and will use just one micro sd . Just easier and cheaper to have two installed at once.

    • I bought the same on aliexpress viofo store, but it included the polarising lens as well as the hard wire kit.

      • I bought the same from the Voifo store, came within 5 days

      • Yes that’s what I meant. Hardwire and polarising kit.

  • Does anyone know if they sell sell just the cables for the dashcam? My wires got snipped and now i have a useless front and rear. I'm aware of the hardwire kit which I think connects to the front but no cable that connects front to back

    • +1

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/276240716808

not sure if its the cheapest, but they do sell it

    • Everyone with a hardware kit will have a spare front one unless they threw it out eventually like I did.

I'm sure someone would donate one.

Back connecter they sell for 30 bucks on official webpage

    • +1

Don't forget the tax they collect and probably don't forward on.

      • +1

        Thanks to Gerry Harvey

      • good catch, still cheaper however
